92 Center Consol with 98 Consol SWAP?
Does anyone know if the housing of the 92-97 center consol is the same as the 98-99. Are the shifter and plate reverseable between the two years. The 98-99 interior looks so much better.)

Much of the center console is swappable between 92-97 and 98-99 but the shifter is NOT. 1998 models recieved a new 5 speed automatic transmission so the shifters are not interchangeable. I am not sure what "plate" you are talking about.

I think that you should be able to swap out the automatic housing between the 92-97 and 98+. The actual shifting is done by the ECU, so if you just change the automatic shifter the car will have it's same shift points and etc. But this depends if the car has the same mounting bolts as the 92-97.
By plate, do you mean the plastic covering around the 92-97 shifter and wood covering around the 98+? Those should be interchangeable.
Cosmetically, the only interior difference between the 92 and '98 SC400 are the blue interior lights, shifter console, and seats on the 2000 SC.
I was looking into doing this about 8 months ago but decided against it when i got a good look at the wood on the 98+ shifter console. the wood really doesn't match the rest of the wood inside the car, IMO, it looks rather cheap. But the shifter is definately much nicer. I like how the entire center console is black in the -97 series. So now I'm looking at trying to fabricate or modify a shifter to fit in the -97 SC (shorter). possibly putting the OD button in a different location.

i forgot (ok, didn't know ) all about the 3-spoke steering wheel for 2000!
thanks, that's being added to the list!
oh, i don't think the blue interior lights came in until 2000 also.
