Default Tachometer problem - '93/SC400

Hello everyone!

I have a '93 SC400 and the tachometer is not working Others are working fine.
I've done some search on forums and on the net, and found nothing helpful...

It could be a problem with the electrical system in the instrument cluster.

How can I detect where the problem is?
Anybody has a wiring diagram for the cluster?

Thanks for the answers

Hi,

Do you mean the needle no longer lights up or it doesn't move?

Burnt out needles is a very common problem in SC's and they must be replaced.

There's a million threads on ClubLexus talking about this.

If it is not moving, the motor is likely dead. Rare, but happens.

My problem is that the needle doesnt move (it also doesnt light up, but at least I know why )

I've heard that there are some screws in the back of the cluster... some of these provides the electricity for the tachometer... do anyone knows which ones?
Also, it could be possible that the cluster is working, but the input signal is missing.

There's a 99.9% chance that you are overthinking this. It's almost always just a dead motor.

Szia Attila!

OLT is probably correct. I have the electrical diagram at home, but will not be there for another 2 weeks. Too bad I put my cluster on ebay, otherwise I would have sent it to you.

If you don't get this fixed, let me know and I will send you the diagram in 2 weeks.

You can always get the tach signal from the ECU and use an aftermarket to monitor.

Jo Serencse (good luck!)

Are the US clusters as tempermental as the digitals?? Well at least its not giving you false hope and keep blinking in and out and in and out again. I'd prefer it stay dead than try and work sometimes. I decided to just buy an autometer tach and that did the trick for me...now I know how fast I'm going when the speedo goes out too... 3rd gear 1800rpm=40kph lol
