Unhappy 1995 SC400 Engine Light & Trac Light On

I'm a new member witha 95 SC400 with 131K miles.

Today for the first time since I've owned my Lexus, my Lexus experienced the following symptoms:

1. Check Engine Light ON
2. Track Light ON
3. Hesitiation/shaking

Any suggestions? I am not a mechanic, but skeptical of dealerships because of the unknown.
I like to do research prior to committing the car.

Please advise.

Welcome..

When the "check engine" condiction occurs, "Trac Lamp" (Traction Control disabled) with check engine is normal. Take your Lexus to your local Autozone and have the check engine code read. They usually do this for no charge. The diagnostic port is at the bottom of the dash near the steering column. Get back to us with the four digit code or codes for further analysis.

A quick point, if your gas cap is loose, it will cause a check engine light (CEL). But hesitiation/shaking leans towards an O2 sensor in the exhaust maniford (Denso Brand matches the OEM engine computer) or the MAF (mass air flow) sensor in the air cleaner output path hose.

But the code will tell....

**EDIT**WOW, a thread from 2006! O_o!!!

Welcome to the CL forum!

It would help diagnose the symptoms if you read the CEL code. You don't even need a reader to do this.
If it hesitates, it could be a dirty throttle body, dirty IACV, or bad IACV, MAF dirty, on and on. But since it's a combination of hesitation and shaking, (bucking and surging?), I would venture to say the most probable cause is the TPS and/or the throttle cable linkage. Here is a thread on adjusting the Throttle Position Sensor with and ohmmeter. https://www.clublexus.com/forums/per...on-issues.html
Tell us what the codes tell you. good luck!
