Rattle in SC Headliner - is it hard to remove?
Hello from Los Angeles- I am thrilled to discover this forum and enjoyed reading all the recent postings- it's great to see how helpful everyone is. Perhaps someone has some thoughts on my problem:
My 1992 SC400 has a very annoying rattle coming from the front headliner area. I believe my only option is to remove the headliner, find and secure the offending loose part (and/or add lots of foam padding) and reinstall. But like a lot of headliners, it is hard to see how it is properly removed. Is it just a matter of removing the overhead lights and sun visors, and it will drop down? Or are there hidden clips that are easily broken and therefore left to the pro$?

You will need to remove the rear seat and side panels first. Then the rear roof handles and widow surrounds. The front roof handles are a little different - DO NOT LIFT UP THE RUBBER AROUND THE ENDS OF THE FRONT ROOF HANDLES. You need to insert a small flat head screw driver to lift up the metal tab from the inside of the handle -not the outside. Then the handle end will slide towards the outside and flatten to come of the clip. Inspect the inside of the handle carefully with a torch to figure it out. The other tricky bit is disconnecting the rear view mirror power supply. There are 4 clips holding the rear of the headliner and one big black holder in the middle of the headliner- use a torch to inspect them from the front - the front sags down once you have removed the plastic plugs around the edge of the liner and the sunvisor hardware.

Yes, as I found out the HARD way.
Nothing a little E-6000 silicone glue didn't fix tho!
