Rate my New System
Hey guys,
I just got back from LA and this is what I got...
2 10" Rockford Fosgate Punch HE in a dual bandpass box (which takes up the entire trunK!!!) - the dude said I could come buy on saturday after I installed it and switch the box for a sealed one if I wanted for free cuz I couldn't decide which I wanted (although he was pushing the sealed)
1 Farenheit 640W peak amp (75x4 RMS at 4 ohm)
1 Farenheit 540W peak amp (330x1 RMS bridged)
1 pair JBL 4" components
1 Aiwa 6 disk CD changer with FM modulator
What do you guys think of Farenheit amps? I could have got DHD for cheaper...did I make a mistake? How much should those things have cost me? Did I get ripped off? I'll post how much I paid in a day or two or after I get a few responses as to what you guys think the prices should have been.
Thanx!!
(now for the hard part...installing it)

I've never used or seen Fahrenheit amps. I've been using only Rockford for years now. The subs should sound good! I would also go with the sealed box. Put them in a sealed box and face it back towards the rear of the car in the trunk. That makes the trunk in essence "act" like a bandpass box, so you don't need a real bandpass box. Those boxes are made to sort of hide distortion from cheaper speakers, which the RF's arent!
All in all, sounds good. Keep us updated with the progress of putting it in!

I have no experience with fahrenheit products but I have heard they are terrible. And I hate Rockhard Prostates. I can't believe you put them in a Lexus. Now all you need is a big "Team Rockhard Prostate" across the back window.

i don't like rockford subs either, they sound like *** to me...
if you wanna be safe, just get some jl's, you can't go wrong with those
i have 2 infinity 12" perfects in my trunk and i like them, i just need a cleaner amp
the perfect's are great for sealed, they only need about 1.0 cubic feet each, and our trunks are about 9 total i think
personally, whatever it cost you, i would have spent more and gotten some nicer components, i used to have a ghetto *** torn up minivan and i put a ghetto *** system in there, and liked it.. but now that i drive a lexus...
and aiwa?????
see if you can return what you bought,t here are much much nicer head units out there that are not that expensive
just my opinion

My friend,
I had a bangin *** system in my last car. Unfortunately it got stolen (the whole car).
So this time I have chosen not to get the best money can buy, but something that sounds decent. I think JBL components are decent - or at least not ghetto. Plus 4" components were very very hard to find!
And I would never get an Aiwa head, are you on crack? Just the CD-changer, with an fm modulator. The interior is completely stock looking!
And personally I think RF subs are just about the best you can buy, and I'm sure many people agree with me (at least high up there in the ranks).
Anybody have any guesses on the prices??
Kamil
p.s. Any pointers on getting the freaking power wire into the cabin?? I'm having a bitch of a time!

I agree with you on Rockford, I think they're by far some of the best. I made the mistake of buying JL Audio one time, but I much prefer my RF. They just sound better.
Are the JBL's that you got the GT series or GTi's? I had some GTi's about 4 years ago, but cannot find them anymore. They were the high-end hand made seperates. I had a Punch 200 (the original kind) just pushing the tweeters! Those were some awesome speakers. I haven't had any use of the GT's yet, but I'm sure they must be decent!
You can go to http://www.uscaraudio.com and see prices on Farenheit. That's the only place I remember seeing them for sale.

GT series. Couldn't find much else.
With a full day of shopping, each in a different store, I found...
(All 4" component sets)
Some cheapie Pioneers ($40)
JBL GT ($60)
Fosgates ($85) (the cheaper ones with foam)
MB Quart ($140)
200 watts to each tweeter?? That's a whole lot of power!! I'm gonna run 75 rms to the pair...or do you think I should run each channel in 2 ohm for each pair? But these cheap amps don't double, it would be 110 RMS per channel in 2 ohm, meaning I guess each speaker would get 55?
What would be better?
by the way, they're rated 5-120 RMS

Well the GTi's and GT's are totally different speakers.....I would make sure I stay within their RMS rating. Running a cheaper amp at 2ohms adds a lot of distortion to the sound. I would stay at 4ohms, your ears will be happier.
With a little over 200 to each tweeter, they would actually get hot to the touch, but never failed. I've still got the tweeters and one mid from the set. Someone tried to jack the stuff out of my car a while back, and they punched a hole thru one of the Kevlar 4" midbass drivers. So I've only got one. I figure whenever I get around to upgrading the topend of my sound, I'm going to put the tweeters back in, and just get some new midbass drivers.

I dont know how you can slag RF speakers, we have seen some fantastic results from RF systems, even a third place at national sound-off.
Any speakers badly installed or driven of crap amps will sound - crap, RF speakers need to have a good system design and good amps otherwise your just pissing money away.
