im starting to wonder if i posted this in the right place sorry if i did if so can some one move it :egads:

They might be correct for that shop, but look somewhere else for better prices. For one thing battery terminals are only around $5-$20 bucks depending on quality.

mikevogel Jul 6, 2005 07:33 PM

yeah i know thats what i was thinking it was a lady who owned this car i think mecanics take advantage of women because of there lack of knowledge with cars.

jgscott Jul 6, 2005 07:36 PM

Yeah those price should be shopped. I just bought the engine ( 2 ) mounts and tran mount ( 1 ) for about $325 parts. I am looking to get them installed but not for $ 500 in labor.

KidPandJ Jul 6, 2005 07:36 PM

WHOA...... :eek2: Those prices are waaaaay high. Definetly look somewhere else!

I bought my engine and trans mounts by mail from Carson Toyota for $249 plus shipping. The trans mount shouldn't take more than 1 hour max, and the engine should take 2 hours for a mechanic that never done this car before. If you are charged three hours at $75 an hour the total cost of the job should be: labor $225 plus $250 parts equal $475. Thats almost $250 below what the dealer quoted and I am forwarding a fair labor quote here plus the parts are available to you for as much as they are to me from the same source.

The regulator is only about $100 and you can do it yourself.... 9 times out of 10, it's just the regulator, not the motor.

mikevogel Jul 6, 2005 08:37 PM

thanks for all your input guys they looked high to me. also they said the vibration was from the drive shaft and on the invoice it says drive shaft assembly 810.96 what are they talking about i've heard of people changing the busings in there drive shaft is that what there talking about?

mikevogel Jul 6, 2005 08:40 PM

also the motor works i can hear it running. i think i have the same problem that most other people have had with that plastic piece breaking or its the cable. woulndt you think a mechanic should know this? there just trying to rob people

The dealership quoted me $500 canadian for just the regulator. $100usd new is a steal!

I was thinking about the same thing. Usually the drive shaft goes for $800-900 list price. However, the estimate is for a full repair therefore, my guess is that they are charging $120 for the center bearing and $170 for the rear coupling (bushing part) Those parts together don't exceed $300, so where does the rest of the $500 in the estimate go? Labor? I am not sure how Lexus put together that figure. Unless of course they are charging no labor for replacing the drive shaft. Now Lexus wouldn't do something like that would they?

Go to Advance Auto Parts, drop $10 on two new terminals and spend 5 minutes installing them (or hell, get the guys to do it for you).

PS. Alllllll those prices are WAY too high

mikevogel Jul 6, 2005 09:59 PM

yeah ive already changed the termanals and did the brakes. aerostar i dont know if you understand this car was gave to me by my mother beacuse she thought it was junk ive got it running good the she is the one who took it to the dealer and got every thing priced. i just moved to flordia from iowa i was going through the glove box and came across this. i have never owned a lexus or any import car thats why i was wondering if there prices are higher. sorry if my post was misleading :)

I've owned a few cars and never had to replace the battery terminal connectors. Why did they need replacing?
