Default yall go to toyota or lexus

I have a 93 sc400. I called toyota and got quoted 600 bucks for 90k mile service (including timing belt). This seems low. I calle lexus and they wanted 1200 for the same service. I did do a search and saw mulitple opinions. Theres no way i can see paying double just to say lexus worked on my car. What do you think

That famous Lexus customer service comes at a price. I didn't think it would be that much of a difference though.

I do book keeping for a guy that specializes in Toyota/Lexus so I'm well taken care of.

What exactly is being done? Maybe one dealership is doing more work than the other. In general, Lexus dealerships charge more than their Toyota counterparts.

Then why are you worried about the t-belt? I changed mine at 130k and it was STILL fine.

I would never take my car to a Lexus dealer for service. NEVER. No matter how damn good the work is I just can't it being doubly better. I'm a dealer-hater so you may not want to listen to me. I've just had friend's who work at stealerships and I know for a fact that they overcharge for errythang.

I'm not that impressed with Lexus technicians to begin with. Or BMW for that matter. The only thing I am impressed with is the free loaner I get whenever I drop it off. Even for oil changes!!! But then again, I'm paying for it one way or another!

Yes! Yes you are! And yeah, they don't impress me either. I know 2 mechanics who are just as good as any Lexus mechanics and they charge a more reasonable amount for what they're doing.

A 92 SC300 is usually worth about $7000 on average. Ain't no way I'm gonna pay Lexus $1200 to do scheduled maintenance on a 15 year old car worth $6500-$7000. They must be insane to even think that...I could put that $1200 down on a newer SC...

Those prices are exactly right, and unless you like spending money, the decision is pretty easy. I take my SC to my local Toyota dealer who is more than happy to take care of me. I used Toyota for both my 60k and my 90k service. They did a great job and saved me hundreds of $. Besides, they are closer than the Lexus dealer anyway. I would recommend either a reputable Toyota dealer, or an independent shop.

You should search on a slightly different subject. Mike got it right- after only 79k miles, the timing belt has plenty of life left, so your most economical decision is to not even bother with changing the belt at this time.

My Toyota dealer here probably never done a 90K service and timing belt/water pump change on a Lexus LS4/GS4/SC4, else I would let my Toyota service do the work.

Only goto Lexus here. For major services, local Toyota dealerships will refuse service and say goto the nearest Lexus dealership.

yup. also i tried to go to a toyota dealer to get my oil changed, they had a special for 19.99 for an oil change. The service guy told me it would be 29.99 since it was a Lexus.

The toyota dealership refused to work on my car. I even called them before I brought it in and they said they could work on my SC300. When I got to the Toyota dealership, they said they wouldn't touch it. I was P'd off.
