When Trucks Don't Stop

Happened today  until today, this car was damage free. How it angers me when people try to run yellow lights before they turn red. I was at fault because as I pulled into a center median a truck was speeding down the turn lane and hit the front of my car. The truck was in the lane about 200' too early and was going about 50 MPH trying to beat a yellow arrow. The irony of it all is that someone actually signalled that it was clear to turn out into the lane.

Heres what happened, Anyone think I could contest the ticket? The truck hit me going so fast that it skipped sideways over 80ft before it came to a stop. The damage you see on my car is where the Pickup actually drove Over my hood and ramped off.

Heres a actual shot overhead of the area. The accident is marked in Yellow arrows showing my path and the trucks path along with the turn lane entrance and stop light.

Btw, was it your fault? If not...you can enjoy a smooth ride and some nice settlement money. Go see a good chiropractor and PLEASE PLEASE only go to a body shop you can TRUST. Don't make the same mistakes I made. If you need some helpful info, pm me and I'll get you through it so you won't have the headache I went through my whole 5 months before I really got my car back and fixed right (and not even everything is still done, but I'm not going back).

good luck.

Man damn...what happened? What type of individual was driving this runaway truck?

Sometimes, when a light turns green I'll sit there for a second or 2 to make sure no late idiots are flying through the light as it turns from yellow to red. People behind me will honk but screw them, I'm not gonna roll out into the intersection until I take a couple of quick looks to make sure no gardening trucks full of lawnmowers are coming through the light late (This happened to me about 3 times in the past month...gardners running a light infront of me).

Good luck man, let us know how things turn out :(

my mother is an old asian lady and she seems to use her signals and brakes just fine :uh:

IronCobra Mar 11, 2005 12:58 PM

Not to say that all or even most old Asian lady's are like that.

You really want to play it this way? My mom is too and she signals and brakes fine as well but lets face it...asian women are stereotyped as bad drivers. I was always defensive when people brought up that stereotype, now I agree because I was in an accident. Anyway, I'm done with this thread...hard to imagine anybody would get offended by my post.

which means that it used to offend you too, then

of course you are done with this thread. You've contradicted yourself and you now support a stereotype

That's human nature bro. I get treated poorly when I go into most Asian-owned businesses but I know why. I'm not a fool, I grew up in LA. That's just how people are. They stereotype based on personal experience or family/friend's influence. I'm not saying it's right, just that I understand why it happens.

Cobra, no one was injured right? I hope not, doesn't look like it from the damage even though I know some nerves were most likely frazzled.

rushgator Mar 11, 2005 02:45 PM

Ahem....uh..gettin back on topic...

Sorry to hear about the wreck Cobra. :( Where did it happen? Seems like everybody's gettin' smacked these days. Pics look like there is not much mechanical damage, only sheet metal, lights, rad support, etc. Are you OK (other than being pissed off)? I assume the airbags didn't blow. Let us know how it turns out.

And it's your fault?

southernsc Mar 11, 2005 05:35 PM

if the other guy was speeding it was his fault, you should have called a cop to the scene

I do this ALL the time. Each & every single time I enter an intersection by myself (I always slow down a bit before I get there). If traffic is heavy, I just roll along (because I'm sure the idiot that was going to run the light will notice that there are 20 cars crossing the intersection).

When like you, when I'm the first car waiting at a red light, I ALWAYS make sure to let it turns green BEFORE I let my foot off the brakes. Even then, I roll through the intersection s-l-o-w-l-y with my eyes wide open scanning for morons who thinks they can beat the light.

It's just not worth it.

Back on topic: Iron, how is it your fault? I don't understand the scene....shouldn't the truck flying down the WRONG WAY on the turn lane be at fault also? I'm sorry to hear about the accident. The pics were painful to look at. Good luck with everything.

IronCobra Mar 11, 2005 09:34 PM

Oh yeah, I also just moved to TX from Florida less than 2 1/2 weeks ago. This happened in Temple, TX

Din Mar 11, 2005 09:39 PM

True and the Cop even pointed that out to me, but he said that "you are suppose to stop for any traffic that is on coming in a turn lane"
