i'm sure he said that cuz he didn't want him to go through all the trouble if he could get the same results much easier. no harm no foul.

actually, for headlight condensation you can simply remove the headlight, remove the bulbs, and shove a hairdryer in one of the larger holes and go to work. silicone it well for a good seal when done drying it out. no need to go through the pure he!! of baking it, tearing it apart, etc..

Glad to see someone saw the true spirit of my post, thanks TWISTEDII

OLT - good strategy there... it may be a little difficult for some to get an excellent and clean looking seal that way, but I could see where that would be a great way to tackle the problem.

BTW - I found some pics of my 5 minute headlight cleaning... sorry I don't have before shots, but take my word for it 1992 lights with 193k miles of MD road debri are not pretty. Sorry they aren't really close up either.

When my project was moving along nicely

I just cleared my oxidation on the headlights... here was my method:

Mask off all paint around the lights with masking tape
Mothers aluminum polsih applied by Porter Cable polisher @ speed 6... done 3 times or as needed
Cheap Turtle Wax rubbing compound two times on Porter Cable @ speed 6
Meguiars Cleaner wax by PC @ speed 4 once
Synthetic wax once with PC @ speed 4

My headlights were very yellow, and now the car has a whole new look. I planned on taking them out and wetsanding them, but this worked just as well. These were all cheap waxes that I got for like $1 that I only use on doorjambs, etc... kind of the rejects of my huge detailing supply collection... so they came to good use on the headlights

WOw! Very clean. I tried sanding and buffing and also using the maguiars Scratch X plastic polish and my lights are still not as clean as I would like them to be. I think I will do what you did and try out that turtle wax stuff. Hopefully the'll come out looking great like yours.

How about putting some 3M clear bra or venture sheild over the finished headlight to prevent further scratches and yellowing. A few sq feet can be picked up for pretty cheap.

Funny story... Was waxing my car the other day and "accidentally" wiped some Mothers wax on my lights... When I proceeded to remove the wax the lights started cleaning up...!!

My lights were much worst then the ones in the start of this thread.. I proceeded to "go at my lights" with the wax and they are super clean and 1 week later they still look 10x better than before

Not sure why it works but thought this thread was the appropriate place to share my 5 minute fix...lol

So would you guys say that rubbing compound works better than the Meguiars plastic polish?

i don't have pics but I have a odd solution...

Toothpaste

A friend reccomended it to me and I've tried it on about 5 cars now, it works just as good as the rubbing compound. i used a soft towel and polished it down about 3 times and the lights come out looking like new.

sorry if this post is too unrelated. The polish is a great idea. It just reminds me that you have to be careful on ebay. some of those headlights could just be old polished ones.
