92 SC 300 Questions

I am thinking about getting a 1992 - 93 SC300. I was wondering and have heard that the 3 liter I6 is basically the same engine that is in the 93 - 98 Supra's. Is this true. Also what about the Automatic transmission, is this also that same trans that is in the Supra?
Would the motor and trans in a 92- 93 SC300 hold as much power as what a Supra can hold without any major engine and drivetrain work?

Yes the 3.0L motor is that same one in the NA supra. As far as the Auto tranny, I doubt they are the same, mainly because the Lexus auto will shift smoother and I'm sure the NA supra auto has a more sporty feel to the way it shifts and drives. (this is speculation though) For the manual the two are the same between the Lexus and the NA supra, 5-speed, same clutch, etc. Good luck.

Thanks for your reply. Well let me ask this, since I am new to these cars, what is the difference between the 93 + NA Supra engine and the Twin Turbo Supra engine?
I mean except the turbos. I guess what I am asking is if I installed twin turbos on a NA Supra or SC300 would it basically have the same HP and TQ of the TT Supra? Also would it respond to mods like the TT Supras do?
Thanks

no, no, no, no, no,
Essentially the short blocks are the same between the two. However the NA head is different, different port design, soooo, NOTHING will fit on the NA motor, the turbo's, the intake manifold, etc. Also, the NA motor operates a compression ratio of 10:1 which is considerably higher than the ~8.5-7:1 the TT supra runs. But you can still run up to approx. 10psi of boost in the NA stock configuration, you will need to the lower the compression with the bigger head gasket offered for the NA motor. And you will be able to run high boost. Yes, the motor can handle very good amounts of power, just like the supra motor, and will respond great to a turbo. You can upgrade to aftermarket twins or single turbo's, but you would need a custom manifold for the twins, and your looking a lot more HP than a stock supra. Remember you need more fuel to run with turbos......

sorry I didn't clarify this all the way. The blocks are the same, bore, stroke, size, etc, but the cooling passages will not line up if you just swapped heads. SO you could say that the short blocks are a little different. If that were the case I would have a BPU SC300!! No but seriously these are good questions, ones that every one asks if they are interested in upping there performance for the SC300....good luck
