battery problems?
I drained my battery while doing some work on my SC400. I used a battery from antoher car to start the SC and then planned to switch the battterys so teh alt could charge the dead battery.
When I put the other car's battery in I hooked up the terminals backward (+ to black, - to red), the car was not running or even turned on.
I switched it back after about 2 seconds. Car started fine, then I put the dead battery back in, let it run for about 1 hour.
THen I test drove it, every thing seemed fine until I turned on the headlights. Driving, turned on headlights and the car went dead, everything: engine, dash lights, windows, everything.
If I jump start it, it will rubb until the cables are removed then it dies immediately.
What did I do?
Any ideas on what the probelm is?
I am getting the battery checked today, but it seems like something else is wrong.
Thanks,
Adam
Alternator is dead

Please don't say thing like that when you don't know for sure.
Adam: I've done this in a customers car once and all it did is blow the main fuse.
Open up your fuse box and look for MAIN.
It should be around 80 AMPS.
Check to see if it is blown...better yet, check it's continuity with a tester.
Let us know what happens.

I think you just need a new battery. If you take it in most places can check to see if your alt.is charging properly. BUT<start with the battery. If it has a dead cell it is not running enough voltage. It is also possible it could be your alt.,make sure the battery terminals are clean and tight and make sure your alternator belt is still on.If you alt. is bad it most likely killed you battery as well if it drained it completely. Good luck, drive it to auto zone or somewhere and have them check it.

The battery put out 7 amps (instead of 700).
Got a new battery and the problem is solved. Now, onto the next probelm ...
