got a call from the dealer thismorning to pick up my shop manuals. This thing should come in handy. For you folks w/ a '92 SC300, just let me know if you want me to look up something for you. I'll do what I can.

I was wondering what you paid for your service manuals.

Default service manuals

I may be wrong, but I suspect that what was seen for $20 on e-bay were probably owner’s manuals – not service manuals. I paid $130 for the 2 manuals (5 inches thick between them, $26.00 per inch). There’ve been other postings with prices ranging from $100 or so up to $170 – this is from the dealer. I know how much Lex dealers hate to mark up merchandise (no way!) but it’s hard to believe that there’s that much markup in the manuals?? Just got mine recently also – haven’t had time to look at them much so far – maybe coming weekend – I did notice that the step-by-step instructions are sketchy – it’s more like “remove old – replace new – bolt it down”.

Arrow I'm not trying to burst anyone's bubble...

but they do go for that much on e-bay, well for my car at least but there's gotta be less demand for my car manuals.

Default Service manuals / Owner's Manuals

Francis K: No offense – but I just had to see those $20 manuals for myself - before I shove my $130 set up my dealer’s a**. What I found were 9 listings for Lex owner’s manuals ranging from $9.99 to 35.00 – there was 1 listing for a ’92 LS Repair book (what we’re calling the service manual), volume 2 only at $25.00. Point being, it’s worth a look – if you’re prepared to wait till your book shows up – apparently you got lucky.

Default Not put down

Francis: Hey guy - I didn't take offense - don't see why you should either - like I said, if I could buy the manuals for $20 bucks that's great - I just don't think that its an everyday occurrence - don't stop giving your advice/opinion - we can all use all the help we can get!

Question My car?

Francis - how can you the term "late model" in the same sentence with my old '92? I guess you must have seen a post where I have been considering a later model '97+ SC - what can I say - its like thinking about selling one of my kids - gonna be hard to pull the trigger. I saw 2 SC4s ('92 &'93) on e-bay tonight - very low prices but high miles (132K, the other 214K) - you may want a newer/lower mileage car - but they were both less than $5,000!!! and pictures looked great - I sure hated to see that. And if you were serious, my baby's not ready to leave me yet!

Thumbs up One great car

Francis - I'm an old guy - I've owned 32 cars - the SC at 10 years and 70k miles is better today than any of them were when I got them - an that includes 2 BMW 5 series (unfortunately not 540i) - of course the earliest ones were little more than junk but later did have new BMW, Cadillac, Lincoln MK7 LSC. The SCs are trouble free, fine looking, fast (not fast enough but fast) - the car just does everything right. I still enjoy the car! And still get compliments on it - mostly females - another good reason to drive an SC. And the thing that gets me - these cars are available today 8-10-12K $ - what a bargain! I see you're sporting around in the big Lex - ex-wife has one, loves it.

Sorry - forgot the price - I bought it w/7k miles in 1992 for an even 40k.

If you know a mechanic (any mechanic) he can order the shop/service mannual for you and you won't have to pay dealer price. I got a mechanic (friend of my brother) order it thru his parts department (Honda dealer). He paid a total of $110 for my 93 SC400 service mannual (two volume) and a owner manual. It took about three weeks for delivery. It is an absolute must to have the shop mannual to do any work on your car; it is the only mannual that provide the most information of how to for your particular car. The mannual are for a competent technician to read; therefore, it is hard for me to understand sometimes.
