SQUEEK in Steering Col-How to Fix?

I have had my 94 SC 300 for about 2 months now and have just noticed a slight squeek in the steering col. when the wheel is turned.
Hopefully all I need to do is lubricate something on the inside of the col. To do this I have to remove the cover. Can this be done by just removing the two screws on the bottom of the cover?
Has anyone encountered this squeek before?
What do yo lubricate or do you just spray WD40 on the inside?
Thanks for any advice on the above.

Probably the contact rings for the cruise/horn circuit.
Grease rather than any light oil or WD40 is the proper fix. Just be careful of the airbag crap if you take it apart.

you might also want to make sure your power steering pump isn't leaking. I would check fluid first, then inspect the pump before I start taking stuff apart to grease. It is highly unlikely that part needs grease, but I guess it is possible.
good luck.
good luck.

It's pretty common for contact rings to dry up and need grease, especially in areas near the beach or in arid areas. Sometimes the condition is accelerated if you park the car a lot in the evenings with the windows open.
