Cool

Last night I test drove a 93 SC400. The car seems pretty quick, but I was wondering what is the 0-60 times for these cars ???? Also from a dead stop with over drive off and traction control off too, and just punchng the pedal I thought I would be able to spin or at least chirp the tires but was not able to, now maybe if I held the brake pedal down and reved the engine to 1500 rpm it would have , but is it normal not to be able to chirp or spin the tires from a dead stop ???? Also what kind of 0-60 and 1/4 mile times are you all gettng ??? TIA

depending on the road surface (asphalt, cement, dusty, glossy, etc) my 87 LS400 sometimes spins (with TC off) and sometimes will not. At the drag strip it wouldn't even chirp em. While the SC400 and LS cars share the same basic engine it seems there is a couple differences worth noting. According to this owner http://www.geocities.com/SunsetStrip...pex/lexus.html the SC redlines at 6500rpm. My LS400 redlines and 6000 and hits fuel cut if you try to hold it in gear and over rev. Check out the above site for some good SC performance info.

Default Specs....as I understood them

The SC400 is identical to the LS400 except for the 1st gear ratio (and 400lbs less weight!) This lower gear ration on gear 1 gets her off the line slightly faster.

Times:

SC400

92-97 = 260HP
0-60 = 6.8seconds
1/4 mile = 15.3 seconds

98-00 = 290HP (VVT-i)
0-60 = 6.3 seconds
1/4 mile = 14.7 seconds

Top track speed for all of the years is 149 (FUEL CUTOFF)

jbrady is right about the surface playing a role in when you can bark the tires. Just for fun...if you want to put down about 6 months of tread on the road. Turn the traction control off (but keep you finger on the button). Do a "U-TURN" from a standstill at a stoplight. Drop the pedal to the floor and prepare for funnnnn! She will smoke tires like any good dragster should. Just when her *** wants to breake loose....push the traction control back on and let the computer take over.

It is nothing special...but after a long day...it still brings a smile to my face.

:-)

Platinum,

I believe that only the 96 and 97 model year SC had 260HP...the older ones had 250.

Lance,

My bad...you are right. The '96
(and 97) was tweaked to produce 10 for lbs of trq and 10 more hp.

Cool I love my manual!

Shoot, Mine chirps in first and even when going into 2nd. The 5spd is soooo much more fun to drive than my 400 was!!
