The black interior was a must have not an option. I've owned BMWs for a while now an used to their many color options. On the shade of grays alone, they have or had like 2 to 3! Possibly more...

I think Lexus has some work to do in terms of interior color options. Though the interior quality is good, it's not on par with German Luxury cars.

The leather is definitely on the soft side too. I guess only time will tell.

The door molding just arrived. Will try to install them tomorrow.

Instructions from Toyota are fairly detailed. I'll shoot some photos of the install.

Rediculously simple. I have not posted any pics since done but took maybe half hour to 45 min. I think they look good and I felt a door hit them today in the parking lot at a rink while I was listening to the radio. The lady said sorry, but sorry does not remove the dent. No dent due to body side moldings.

Yes, it is required now in CA. I think that there is something like a $50 fine if you are ever written up without it ... I have never put one on any of my vehicles. Thankfully, I told the dealership not to install it on the RX and don't have any holes on my bumper. I haven't been pulled over since the 1970's ... so I will just keep driving without one on any of my cars. It will probably be a problem one day. I have heard that it is more aggressively enforced in some locales.

I meant, it's required for dealers to mount the frame before it's sold. In the Bay Area, front plates are enforced as we have a lot of traffic cameras.

Still looking into bike roof rack options..

What I'm after is a clean looking system. What would be great is an aluminum bars that are level with factory bars and offer bike trays. I think racks are ugly when they sit way above the car and i'm certain it will be quiet noisy. On our old RX300, I made a custom setup that used the factory cross bars along with Yakima tray and fairing. It worked nicely and looked quiet clean.

This is where I am so far in the debate;

1. Factory cross bar: Pro's, fits on factory roof rails. Cons, can't fit attachments directly. Will need custom mounts to fit bike trays as I did with my RX300.
2. Thule rapid or aero bars: Pro's aluminum, quiet and aesthetic. Cons, sits above factory bars, costs of system as I currently have Yakima.
3. Whispbar, Pro's, quiet, aluminum, aesthetic. Cons , new and haven't found details on them, costs, not sure if it sits lever or above factory bars and available attachments.
4. Yakima, Pro, current have trays and attachment. Con's, black so doesn't match car as well, sits above factory rails.
5. Custom system. Make my own cross bars that can sit where factory cross bars do and fits Yakima's trays. The Steelhead and Viper trays are still my favorite bike trays out there.

SF, if you don't mind me asking, where did you get the side moldings?

were they pricey? Thanks.

Sewell. http://lexus.sewellparts.com/accesso...2012/4477.html

$97.60 with your Club Lexus discount. Upon registering supply your CL username and you'll receive the money off. Some folks install the pieces themselves, others choose to have a body shop do it for $50.

I got mine from Ebay.. seller was parkplacelexusgrapevine.

I forgot about the most obvious way to haul my bike, folding down the rear seat. This was the first time I played wit the 3 position folding rear seat.. quite handy..

Just finished the install. It looks better than I expected.. either way, there's some protection.

Molding look and feel great(piece if mind). I can actually lean the door on something without concern.

Clear bra and bike rack to work on.

Installed Yakima cross bars and notice some slight increase in wind noise on the freeway. I think the increase in noise is minimal but because the car is so quiet, it's noticeable. I might try a set of Thule Aero bars to see if it's better.

Here's a few photos from the molding install. Looks better in person than in photos. Breaks up the tall doors.
