Had my RX minor serviced by Lexus dealer who advised that coolant level was low. (Didn't advise how low). Stated that Lexus is beginning to find that low coolant levels could possibly mean faulty water pump.Recommended water pump replacement and timing belt be replaced at the same time. No apparent leaks on clean garage floor. Car treated and driven gently. Anyone else aware of this issue?:

 

Good lord what terrible self serving advice! These cars are known to consume/lose a small amount of coolant over time. Since the dealer has no idea if it was recently full or even if there is a leak somewhere else, I would call BS on the recommendation. Top it off, keep an eye on it. If it loses anything significant quickly, then troubleshoot the leak. If you are due for a timing belt and water pump, then by all means have it done. Otherwise they are just creating work for themselves.

i had my timing belt done on my 2004 about 2 years ago, the dealer recommended that the mechanic inspect it once everything is off, and go from there. as it turned out, my water pump was fine, no need to replace.

 

I had a slow leak (couple of ounces every six months). It was caused by this leak near the lower radiator hose.

PITA replacing the radiator on these cars. The AC condenser needs to be disconnected since it needs to come out with the radiator. They are bolted together top and bottom by some sheet metal clamps.

The coolant and radiator were very clean after 9.5 years.
