Default DIY (Video) : replacing remote fob battery

Okay, super duper simple one, but i know some guys that still take their remotes to lexus or watchmakers to replace their batteries where they can do it for about $1.50 in about a minute.

Trap for young players, sometimes your owners manual will say you need a cr2016 battery, when in fact it is a smaller cr1616 battery. It is a misprint, you should check before you buy a battery.

Hey benzat, the flip key is a pretty simple swap. You just got to get the blade cut at a locksmith, then move the electronics over from the old fob.

Thanks for posting this and the boot light video. But you need to get a tripod for your phone! :-)

One minor point - it's often recommended to wipe the battery with a clean cloth (eg a cotton handkerchief) if you touch the surface with your fingers. The moisture off your fingers might cause a tiny amount of corrosion which can reduce performance over time.

Locksmiths really won't touch my the flip key. They look at it and think it needs a laser cutter and say no I can't do that. Thus it's sitting collecting dust.

I got my flip key cut at Vancouver chinatown, cost me $25, but make sure the key blade use the same lenght as the original key, otherwise it won't work.

Would love to find a place. Everyone so far has turned me down. Say it's a laser cut. I gave up lol! plus most "locksmiths" are not even in house around here it seems. Allot are mobile and would cost over $100. I might check into it again some day.

Very cool to see your vids Howiefied!

I just changed the key battery in my RX350. It required the Lithium 3v CR2016.

I agree that it is the same as well for the RX330. Perhaps it is different "Down Under."

This was the original remote battery that was replaced. I bought the 2007 RX350 in April 2006. It's amazing that the battery lasted five years. Also my remote did not have the two internal screws shown in the video. The internal electronics instead have a marking on the top saying to pry it apart with a coin. That didn't work. Instead I used a screwdriver. It was very scary, I thought for sure it would break it. All is well, I hope for another five years on the new battery. A good source for the CR2016 is Radio Shack.

I replaced mine the other day and it was a CR1616 (Lexus RX330).
