Default DIY: Door Window Removal and Window Rail Window Motor Removal

This thread has two prior threads that should be looked at,

https://www.clublexus.com/forums/rx3...indow-bad.html

https://www.clublexus.com/forums/rx-...moval-diy.html

Also see, https://www.clublexus.com/forums/rx-...s-and-now.html (which talks briefly about lubricating the glass run)

If you follow the previous thread about door panel removal, consider that step A to get to this thread, as I will be starting this thread where that one leaves off (after you have gotten the door panel off). Whereas the last one showed the front passenger side door, this one will deal with the driver's side door, it's window and removing the window/regulator motor. I am not going into actually fixing the window/regulator motor. It's either working well, on its way out or dead.

This should be the first thing you see after you have removed the clear plastic cover.

For this project you are going to need a 10mm wrench (not shown), 10mm socket wrench (preferable), some white lithium grease, a screwdriver is also optional along with a regular set of pliers.

Not shown but needed are paper towel, a degreaser and a glass cleaner like Windex.

Now, there's actually 11 total screws that need to come out to do this once we've reached this step, 3 hold the window rails/regulator motor together and are noted below in the circles (I have already removed 2 screws, but their locations are noted). You will need a 10mm wrench or socket wrench, because a 3/8ths wrench or socket will not work on these gold screws.

Don't remove them all yet, just note their locations for now.

On the speaker remove these 3 bolts with a philips head or flat head screwdriver, you can also use a 10mm wrench or socket wrench. You may have to pull hard to get it off after you remove the screws. You should see a hole like this then in the last photo.

Next step is to remove the electrical connector shown here with my finger on the speaker.

Here are some reverse sides shots of my speak (one for the Nakamichi unit) for reference. Also shown in the last shot is what the back of the area on the door panel that covers the speaker area, but from the reverse side.

One other thing from the previous door panel removal thread that I've updated in that thread and am showing again is there is an electrical connector to the small courtesy light at the bottom of the door panel. It is possible not to remove the light entirely when removing the door panel and wait until the panel is almost clearly off to disconnect the electrical connector from behind it instead. This is optional, but may be helpful to some as removing the light from the front side can be a bit tricky and things can break, it's very delicate.

This was the original post from the door panel thread, https://www.clublexus.com/forums/2698339-post22.html

Next step is to removal this plastic white electrical connector from the door (it pulls easily off).

Next step is to put a flat head inside the connector as shown and pull the white piece with the fires out. You'll need to work with the piece where the screwdriver is, but you'll see it and it's pretty self explanatory. This connects the window regulator/motor to the power supply and must be disconnected to get the window regulator/rails/etc. out.

I can't emphasize this enough, but you should probably do this with one other person, at least where any movement involving the window occurs, particularly when putting the window back in as it is heavy and a major PITA. While I was able to get everything out on my own. Putting it back in and trying to get just one screw back in with the window sitting there (trying to support its weight) was too much and I had to ask my girlfriend to at least hold the window in place for a second so I could get at least one screw in.

With the next step, I recommend removing all bolts shown except the one in the photo immediately below (it's the only one that has that little groove to the bottom).

Take a look at this picture again, you want to remove the 5 bolts shown in white, but not the one shown in yellow.

Again, to remove the bolts, you can use a 10mm wrench or 10mm socket wrench. 3/8ths will not grab on to these bolts.

Now very carefully with a 10mm socket wrench or 10mm wrench (both shown below) turn this bolt slowly counterclockwise.

As you are doing so, have yourself or highly recommended someone else hold on to BOTH sides of the window tightly and prepare (so as not to be startled) for the window to get heavy as it would ordinarily drop and carefully lower the window as the screw is pulled out entirely.

The window and rails should move slowly to the bottom of the door.

Now, the next steps are to remove the two 10mm bolts that hold the window on to the rail. We'll take this one on the left first. Best to use a 10mm wrench here.

The other bolt is accessed here and best to use a 10mm socket wrench through this hole.

Now to lift the window out, You might have to push from the bottom and pull it as shown with the top left corner facing you and pull the window toward the outside of the vehicle. And then lay it down somewhere such as the back of your vehicle (same goes for the door panel).
