Has anyone been getting a
"Unsafe Network Detected" message when they try to open the Lexus app. I have an iphone 15 Pro which is still on ios 18. My phone is connected to wi-fi and my cellular signal strength is 2 bars out of 4. I have tried with and without a VPN connected and that makes no difference. If I turn my phone off and then turn it back on, it connects with no issues but if I close the app and try to re open it gives me the unsafe message. If no one on this forum has fixes, I'll try emailing Toyota support for help.
Could your phone be connecting to a public Wi-fi? I have an android so not that familiar with an iPhone but mine won't let me connect publicly unless I physically allow it to.
I fixed this glitch.
I have a Norton 360 VPN on my phone. I configured the Norton app to not turn on the VPN while on my trusted home network. Even if the Norton app said the VPN was off, the iphone said the VPN was connected.
This is a classic iOS/Norton quirk: even when Norton 360 shows “VPN off,” iOS can still display the VPN badge because the VPN profile is installed and set to “Connect on Demand.” In other words, the iPhone is keeping the tunnel alive in the background, regardless of what Norton’s app toggle says.
Why You’re Seeing This
• Norton app toggle vs. iOS profile: Norton controls its own app state, but iOS manages the VPN profile. If “Connect on Demand” is enabled in the profile, iOS will keep the VPN connected.
• Trusted network exception mismatch: Norton may think it’s honoring your “trusted Wi‑Fi” setting, but iOS still forces the VPN profile active.
• Badge confusion: The “VPN” indicator in iOS doesn’t always mean traffic is actively tunneled — it can mean the profile is loaded and ready.
How to Fix It
1. Check iOS VPN settings directly
• Go to Settings → General → VPN & Device Management → VPN.
• Tap the Norton Secure VPN profile.
• Toggle Connect On Demand → OFF.
• This ensures iOS won’t auto‑reconnect behind Norton’s back.
2. Remove and reinstall the VPN profile
• In the same VPN menu, delete the Norton profile.
• Reopen Norton 360 → VPN → reconnect once.
• Re‑add your trusted Wi‑Fi exception.
• This resets the handshake between Norton and iOS.
3. Confirm trusted Wi‑Fi exception
• In Norton 360 → VPN → Settings → Auto‑connect.
• Make sure your Verizon home Wi‑Fi SSID is listed as “trusted.”
• Save and restart your iPhone.
4. Test Lexus app again
• With VPN off and “Connect on Demand” disabled, Lexus should launch without the unsafe network error.
