Default Hot cupholder

We just bought our 2nd RX a 2025 RX350 Premium Plus. Love the car but I have a question, On a trip the other day the cupholder in front of the console compartment seemed to get very warm and almost hot. We found this happens when the heared sterring wheel is activated. Is this normal? Is this some cup warming feature we were not mafe aware of? I asked the dealer and that was no help.
Thanks,
Russ

Are you sure it doesn’t get warm all the time? Having the steering wheel heat turned on may just be a coincidence. I’ve never read about a heated cup holder and I’ve been obsessively reading about RX P+ for months.

My guess is that it’s heat coming from the tunnel beneath the console. Should have been shielded/insulated better.

Thanks for the reply. If it was heat from the tunnel I would guess both cupholders would be hot and they were not/ The front one was cool to the touch while that rear one was hot. I will try and get some temp readings from it and post them in a day or so.

I know my Acura MDX would get hot in the console area due to the heating lines to the rear climate control station.
This subsequently killed the HFL board to the vehicle which Acura refused to replace (poorly engineered electronics and heat) and this is one of the main reasons I am the owner of a Lexus today...

Doesn’t the front cup holder have a second, adjustable “floor” that lets you set the cup higher? Maybe that extra piece helps insulate that holder.

Also, try it with the rear seat heat turned off. That’ll help narrow down the source of heat in the tunnel.
