Default Remove Crossbars

Is it possible to remove the crossbars on the RX? Dealer has located a car with them and really don't like them

Probably. Ask the dealer to remove them.

It's possible to remove. Keep in mind you will need to source the plates that cover holes left where the cross bar attaches to the rails.

On other model Toyota/Lexus SUVs there have been issues with removal, mostly screws falling off inside - have to pull the headliner to fix. I'm not saying that's true for the RX as I have not seen any install instructions. - just a warning if you try a DIY job.

Hard to find part numbers for the 2023/24 model years. The cross bars themselves are part PT738-48900. Maybe that would help with finding any special removal tools, and the cover plates once the bars are removed.

Are you referring to the cross bars or the roof RAILS?

Yes, I had the dealer remove the crossbars on my 2023 RX 350 in May when it was delivered. No problems with loose screws. Unfortunately the dealer would not take them off the price and I have them in my attic.

If it's a new vehicle, and the dealer won't remove them for you, look in the glove box. There should be a shrink wrapped kit with the tools, plates and instructions. It's not super difficult. Maybe scary if you aren't used to working on cars. But totally doable by the owner. On mine the bolts were so tight I had to use an impact driver to loosen them. Other than that it was, maybe, a half hour job. Mostly because I went slow. ... and had to find the correct bit for the impact driver.

Default 2024 Roof Rack Cross Bar Removal

Hello everyone!

I purchased a 2024 RX 350 yesterday and it includes factory installed roof rack cross bars which i HATE so i asked the dealer to remove prior to delivery this Friday.

The more I look at them it appears they are not removable and more permanent looking since the mounting bracket goes through the side rail.

Am i at a loss here?

It's doable at home. Look for the kit (wrenches, plates, etc.) in your glove box. Instructions included. Just take your time. May seem intimidating, but once you get one side loose you'll see it's not that big of a deal.

Thanks for the reply! So is there like a cap that snaps on to cover where is was mounted?

Are all the new RXs "cross bar ready?" I'd love to see a picture of what it looks like after the removal

you can try to trade/sell the cross bars with someone else exchanging their plastic covers?

No need. The plastic covers come in the removal/install kit that comes with the vehicle. It's all there: wrench, covers, etc. Altho' I'd use a better wrench.
