Passenger door won't open until I put it in Park

When I pull up to let my passenger out, put my foot on the brake the passenger door won't open until I put it in Park. Can this be changed so that the passenger door will open in Drive as long as I have my foot on the brake? Very annoying!!

I doubt Lexus would override this.

Hit the unlock button on the door.

I make it a point to try and always have the car in park before I let anyone out. At my age, anything can happen. Always play it safe.

Mone works the same, and I may be wrong, but I think it's a setting that can be changed in the menu. If it's set to lock when you shift out of Park then you need to put in back in Park to unlock, but I seem to remember that this can be turned off so that the doors don't lock automatically. Obviously though this means that the doors will remain unlocked while you're driving.

I haven't sat through it to check, but this video on door lock settings might have an answer:

Unlock the doors and try it

We had the same issue. Then I figured out all the doors obviously lock when the car is in drive.

If you want to get out of the passenger door when the vehicle is still in drive and your foot is on the brake, the passenger just has to hit the door unlock button which is on top of the passenger door armrest, then they can unlock the door themselves without having you unlock the door from driver side control.

Both driver side and passenger side have door lock and unlock buttons.

The rear doors have lock & unlock buttons too, but I assume that they are inhibited when the child safety locks (rear of the doors) on the rear of the door are in the lower position.

typically when you hit the unlock button you tend to hear a noise. with this model not a sound is heard and i guess it could throw some folks off.

Some type of audible cue sure would have been nice.

Who else remembers the Chrysler Corp. cars of the 1980s announcing "A Door Is Ajar"?
:yikes:

Thanks, I thought it was directly related to the RX still being in gear.

Is there another way to allow passengers to open doors without having to put the car

Into Park ?
