gas Cap holder?

have a 2018 RX450HL and there is a holder to hold the gas cap when filling the tank. However, no matter how I orient the gas cap it always falls off and hangs down against the body of the car. I am concerned about scratches, etc on the body of the vehicle. is there a trick to placing the gas cap in the holder?

I find it a bit tricky to get the cap in the holder. You have to line up the rim of the cap with the 1/4 circle area in the door - it pops into place.

Yes, I find it hard to keep it there. It easily falls.. i gave up and just carefully let it hang from the cord after twisting it off.

If I'm not mistaken, there are two indentations in the holder that the cap seems to fit in. The smaller quarter circle (closer to the filler tube) will cause the cap to fall off easily. You have to pop it into the outer slot (closer to the door), and the cap will sit solidly in the holder.

Bought a 2016 CPO. My first fill up I was like WTH where does cap go. LOL. Went in to have a few things checked and asked service writer about it. We went outside so he could show me. He had a hard time making it stay there. It is a pain.

This is not one of the best engineering feats by Lexus! :egads:

Exactly what I do.

If you hold your mouth just right, and make sure the cap is in the outer indentation like Kolokmee posted, it will stay in place.

NJ is one of two or three states that do not allow self serve.

I also have no issue putting the cap in the holder. Works just fine for me.

I also feel that holder accumulates a lot of dust. Not sure I want the cap picking it up and putting it in the tank. My old Acura had a little cable with a knob sticking out of the gas tank cap. You placed the knob on a slot at the bottom of the gas door and the cap hanged in the air. Never fell and the gas cap did not touch anything.
