I’m on my third 450h, this is a 2019 model...after owning it for two weeks all of a sudden there are strange noises coming out of the rear area of the car. One is a rhythmatic thumping, like a small piston pump. Another is a rattling sound. And finally every now and then a sound like a “sliding patio door” closing.

all of these sounds are when the gas engine is running, and whether the engine is cold or hot doesn’t matter.

I have an appointment for service, but I’m really wondering about the reliability of this new model. My last model was a 2010 and had absolutely no issues...!!

please let me know if any of these noises sound familiar and what the results were.

my 2017 RX 350 F sport has that thumping noise coming from the rear area as well. But it occurs once in a while, and can only hear it when the car is quiet in park. I just ignored it. But lemme know if you figure out the cause.

have you you ever spoken to a dealer/ service department about this noise?

nope I have not. Kinda busy so i’m lazy to stop by the dealer
