Accessorizing 4RX for Norcal "winter"
I gleaned a ton of information and tips from CL over the past month for how to get my new Caviar RX 450h F Sport into well-accessorized shape for going up to the snow in Lake Tahoe, and thought I would summarize the purchases, associated vendors and miscellaneous notes for anyone in a similar situation (vs. going through so many old posts, as fun as that can be!).
To go skiing
I didn't (or haven't yet) gone anywhere near as fancy as some of what other CL members have done, just a couple of minor things to dress it up.
To go skiing
- Thule Aeroblade Edge 7603B/7602B (Black)
- Bought from https://www.ebay.com/usr/empiricoutdoor
- Locks often seem to be included from this vendor, which nets you a decent discount over buying it new elsewhere
- Open box and lightly used, but hey, it’s a roof rack
- A pair of 7602s will work as well, but when I was searching for it this vendor didn't have them in black
- Thule Roof Rack Fit Kit For Podium Style Foot Pack - 4072
- Bought from etrailer.com
- Need this to go with the roof rack to fit on the flush roof rails
- Whispbar WB300 ski / snowboard carrier
- Already had it
- Don’t actually know if they make these anymore but etrailer.com was nice enough to confirm that they would work with the Aeroblades
- Security Chain Company SZ435 Super Z6 Cable Tire Chain
- Bought from
- Haven’t had to use it yet but this is the one that supposedly fits the 235/55R20 wheels on the F Sport
- All-weather OEM floor mats
- Bought from https://parts.lexusstevenscreek.com/
- Didn’t like the way the floor liner covers up the silver foot rest on the left side so I went with regular mats
- Have to suffer with vacuuming it a little more frequently as a result
- Bought on Black Friday and got a 20% discount
- All-weather OEM cargo mat
- Bought from https://www.ebay.com/usr/parkplacelexusgrapevine
- Fits perfectly as it should, since it’s OEM
- Shouldn’t have taken the carpet one that came with the car
- Weego 22s Jump Starter
- Bought from on the advice of thewirecutter.com
- An overabundance of caution
- Console armrest storage bin box tray container
- Bought from https://www.ebay.com/usr/autopan
- Fits perfectly within the console storage, has little fitted rubber mats in it with Lexus RX logo

- California 1960s Legacy Plate
- More details at https://www.dmv.ca.gov/portal/dmv/detail/online/elp/elp
- Black with yellow letters to better match the caviar paint job
- Black Pearl Stainless Steel License Plate Holder
- Bought from autoattire.com
- Made the mistake of getting the thin-all-the-way-around (https://www.autoattire.com/black-pea...-frames-2.html)
- Should’ve gotten thin on top, thick on bottom (https://www.autoattire.com/black-pea...-frames-w.html) to hide the bottom 2 holes in the California license plates
- Ceramic coating
- Went to http://www.carbonitedetailing.com/ on the advice of CL and Yelp
- Ian Osgood does great work!
- Various detailing tools
- Bought from Autogeek / Autopia, but similar stuff available at Detailed Image and there’s always a sale going on at one of them!
- https://www.autogeek.net/autogeek-clean-clear-kit.html for the basics
- https://www.autogeek.net/griots-gara...ing-towel.html to dry the car (amazing how much water it soaks up)
