Why no CarPlay in the 2019 RX?

Noted that 2019 ES manufactured before October only get CarPlay as part of the navigation package (thus some cars won't have it). ES manufactured from October will get Carplay as standard feature. Lexus won't retrofit to prior to October cars. Fyi, so you guys need to confirm when purchasing. Probably plug your phone in to confirm it, don't trust the salesperson's word. My friend who didn't know anything about technology got lied that they can use CarPlay on the RX...

There’ll be at the very least the new gen navigation (same as new LS/ES) and updated Lexus Safety (again, same as new ES - finally FINALLY with LTA..)

CarPlay and better infotainment in general - 2019 RX
I am a new Lexus owner as of today (2019 RX450h) after owning Infiniti vehicles for the past 30 years. I finally left Infiniti because their info systems were even worse than Toyota and a refresh is at least 5 years away. I will hopefully have my Rivian by then. I went with the RX450h specifically to install Openpilot autonomous driving, but was also very aware of the entertainment system issues thanks to the great posts in this forum. I did a great deal of research into the Isailit device (please forgive misspellings) but then found a California company called Grom that made a more reliable device and provided US support (and the device ships from USA instead of AliExpress). Installing it tomorrow. Will definitely report back to the group and hopefully post a YouTube video! Here are a couple of links for anyone interested- it shows a full install in an RX350 from 4 months ago:
Grom VLine VL2 Demo in RX:
Hopefully I can post an install video soon. Definitely seems like a big point for all RX owners.

The device does do mirroring, but doesn’t do CarPlay for Apple or Android per se. Instead, it has everything built in and tethers to WiFi or a mobile hotspot. Since it has everything built in, such as Waze, there is no need for CarPlay or to plug your phone into anything. It also lets me use a Qi charger in the car. I found a place to do the install but they wanted to study the device first since they have never installed one. Hoping to hear back in a couple of weeks. If I don’t, I may just install it myself. It is pretty simple.

android auto just gives you a nice interface to access apps, navigation, phone etc. you should be able to just install in on the device from google play.

2020 Toyota Highlander was just revealed at 2019 NYIAS. It has Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and the nav/infotainment system graphics looks to be much improved similar to the new Avalon and LS. It also comes with an optional 12.3 nav screen so I assume and am hoping that that's what 2020 RX will be getting.

There is now a Dealer multimedia software enhancement for the early production 2018 LC, LS, NX, RC, RCF and 2019 NX RCF and ES
that didn't come with the later production Car Play feature. See your store for a service appointment, takes over an hour for the Navigation
equipped cars, a bit less without Nav. http://lexus2.custhelp.com and then FAQ. Not Android Auto BTW

Lexus App Suite and LAS 2.0 are what Lexus provided to enable the vehicle and phone to share
data before CarPlay (& Android Auto) came out. Toyota/Lexus (& Tesla) were unwilling to let the
privacy of drivers be "mined" by those platforms so until they worked out a deal with Apple, did not
include it.
The two are mutually exclusive in that if you are connected with a cable you can use CarPlay and
if you are using Bluetooth (USB cable connected to 12v socket if needed) then you use App Suite 2.0.
