Thinking of doing this upgrade. Couple questions. Can I listen to car radio while running Waze? Will phone call come over car speakers while using Waze? Thanks.

You can listen to car radio with Waze on. Change audio src to Radio.
Phone calls also come over car speakers.

How many of you guys experienced the situation that the carplay / android auto screen freezed but the navigation sound still worked? I need to unplug and plug the phone to let it work again. It happens to me around 1/3 times.
I upgraded the "autoplay" to latest version which says 2018.12.2X for both the app and the firmware.

i had that issue often before, but after updating to the 2018.12.2X in december, I only got frozen once. Not sure what caused it tho. Try to change the USB port you plug the dongle to, it might help (but might not).

maybe clear the cache? Or ask the seller to give the installation file and reinstall it to see if its help?

Where can I check versions and get those app/firmware updates? My wife's iPhone carplay screen freezes when using Waze. Exactly the same symptom above - sound is okay. Below is what I am seeing on settings -> version. I don't see carplay dongle firmware related info. Only app/mcu. Do I see only when connected with iphone?

Happens to me once in a while. I press menu to go to Android and then open car play app again. Do not need to unplug iPhone.

The frozen happened a couple of times, both happened when I was doing back up of the car. Had to restart the carplay app

Open the the Carplay/AutoPlay app, but do not plug your phone in. You will see the dongle firmware version and app version at the bottom left and right. To update, at the top left corner, there is a Setting label/button. Clicking on it will take you to the AutoPlay app settings. Scroll all the way down you will see the software version and a Check Update button (the BOX in this app means the dongle). Click the check update button. If there are new updates, it will show you the buttons to install updates. The latest update was released in December 2018. If not, it will say the software & firmware are on latest version, in yellow.

Or you can try to clear the app cache in android OS setting.

Or try a different good MFi lightning cable. I saw on some apple forums that CarPlay won't work smoothly with bad lightning cable, even with OEM CarPlay units.

For those who lost the bolts when opening the headunit, the bolt part number is 90080-11699. See attached image.

You can buy it at any lexus dealer. I bought one from lexus and it fits bolt in the headunit (and the one holding the screen).

Is there any way to rearrange the icons in the apps folder? Currently the CarPlay icon is on the 2nd page after opening apps folder, and I want to move to the 1st page.

there is the short cut setting under the setting icon on home page, choose navi path icon under that, and you will see many short cut setting, you could choose dvr path as the autoplay app, and you could enter the carplay with one click.
