Default Cargo Cover Falling Apart

My cargo cover is falling apart! I have attached pics. Has anyone had this happen & how was it resolved?

The cover catches (when extended) are getting chewed up with normal use. Also, there are two felt covered guides that are screwed onto the cover frame. My screws have fallen out & gotten lost, so I’m down to 2 out of 4 screws. This appears to be junk. Why not rivot these guides?

The screws fell out on mine multiple times and I had it replaced under warranty.

In your first picture, it looks like someone tried to flip the back half of the cover around. Same thing happened with me too...bad passengers.

Hardly anyone has ever sat back there. That’s just from using it to cover my cargo once a week that I carry. It’s a pretty cheesy hook system.

Agree. When I changed from my '07 RX to my '17 RX I was appalled how degraded and flimsy this entire assembly had gotten. I am sure it was to save costs and weight.

At one point in time someone must've tried to flip your cover. That's the only way I can see that level of damage. Mine was perfect for two years until someone tried to flip it.

My cover is in the basement as I have no need for it and found it was more in the way of things than anything else.

flip it? What is that meaning? Sorry I don't understand, and trying to ensure I don't damage mine. Thanks

Im with you - I have no idea about “flip it”...we pull it closed to cover the cargo or take it out to place something big inside. Both sides of the plastic trim look like a bear chewed on them, including the rubber tips on the cover. I’ve seen better parts on a Yugo!

Maybe he means it was removed and reinstalled the wrong direction?

That’s possible, however there is nothing on the cover that indicates what end is UP. This is just a cheap, crap part.

My solution was too store the cover in my garage. It was always in the way anyhow.

You can’t cover your cargo & belongings when the cover is sitting in your garage. We use ours for what it was intended.

Precisely - I have no need to cover anything back there. If someone wants to vandalize your car, do you think the cover will deter them? Quite contrary, it is likely to attract sinister acts.

This is what I mean and what happens when your passengers mess with the cover. Can't blame them because it really should've been designed to do this anyway.

Pretend it is attached and someone flips it like this

Then you get a damaged cargo cover and damaged trim. You can't tell since it's dark but it's not pretty.
