Navigation Orientation

If you click on the GPS button on the upper left hand section- you can select from three different views for orientation.
1. North UP - Regardless of the direction of vehicle travel, north is always up.
2. Heading UP - The direction of vehicle travel is always up.
3. 3D Heading-up -The direction of vehicle travel is always up but with a 3D view
Let me know if this helps. Page 79 of the navigation manual - Orientation of the map

I have only had my RX about a month and I have used the 3D heads up the whole time so far- I like the perspective it gives you. The only one I would not use most likely is the the north up. Not comfortable with that orientation.

I have used them all in different situations but i probably use the 3d most. But sometimes you want a Birdseye view in which case you use one of the others.. Its taken me awhile to get as comfortable with it as i am now, (maybe still not 100%), but one thing that i find very useful to know and also use in conjunction with 3 possible heading settings is the ability to quickly zoom in and zoom out. And you do that with the thin up arrow and down arrow button in between the large map and menu button. at first i used the mouse and screen icons to zoom in and zoom out. what a pain to do it that way! just have you fingers on that thin toggle and you can quickly zoom in and zoom out depending which side of the button you push. one other thing i find useful is to look ahead and zoom in on that area. you do that by positioning the mouse over your area of interest and pushing one of the mouse buttons. if your area interest is off the screen you can either zoom out until you see it or click near the edge of the screen closer to where you think you want to look and that will bring that "mid point" into the center of the screen and you can continue clicking at an edge until you get it. say you are going 100 miles. that is probably normally way off the screen when you start. but navigate to it as i described. then you can use the toggles to get in close and see all the local streets at your target way before you get there. this is so you get a heads up. now... how do you get back?? took me awhile to figure that one out. simply hit the big map button and it cancels all your pin-point targeting and puts your car right back in the middle again. One other thing to note that is probably obvious is to note the icon in the upper left always shows you which direction you are currently traveling. ie N S W or E. Sometimes you want to quickly know that for a sanity check.

Thanks LexusWest,
that did the trick. I must have accidentally changed it.
I like the regular heading up and it was changed to north. Felt like I was driving sideways.
