RX350L Decisions
I am in the market for a new SUV-coming out of my Audi Q5 with 6 months left. I received an incentive to go look at Lexus RX350L. I used to have a 2010 rx350. I like the the idea of having a third row as the kids can sit back there when we go out with my inlaws. I love the car but I want to know what others say about the performance of the car with the third row. I test drove it and found it to be a little sluggish but the ride is incredible and so comfortable--what I remember from my old Lexus. I see comments online about the infotainment system--Will I like it? Will I get used to the mouse? I thought the technology and the safety features in the car are incredible and worth the money. I need some feedback if I am making the right decision. I am able to get it for $699 where they are absorbing my last 6 months of my Audi at $599 so i think it's a great deal. My wife was against a big SUV with a third row so this seems to the best compromise. Thoughts?

Neil: Just make very sure your kids will fit in the wayback. It's not exactly a warehouse back there and kids have a habit of getting even bigger!

If you need a real third row, consider something like a Yukon. Won't have the Lexus silky smoothness but will have lots more room back there.

I waited for the 350L for the cargo space, but I wasn't willing to pay for the Executive package just to get the thigh extenders. When you have kids, and you want to have a usable 3rd row, the convenience of sliding doors, a usable 3rd row and the cargo space of a Sienna is worth far more than the perceived sport/luxury of an RX (in my experience).

I have a 2018 Yukon Denali with the magnetic ride control and it is just as smooth a ride as my 2017 Rx450h. That being said, I just paid $65 to fill the tank this morning!!!!!!!!!!

I guess they've gotten better - I had a GMC Acadia years ago - ride was decent but certainly not Lexus Like and the reliability was a horror show.

The magnetic ride makes a world of difference. The Denali is not a Lexus. It is a nice travel vehicle, but I miss the overall quality and engineering of the Lexus (My wife does have a 2017 450h). I probably won't have the Denali more than 3 years. I hope Lexus comes up with something else in the meantime.

Unless your kids are really young, the 3rd row in the RX won't fit. There are a couple of SUVs that have a bit more 3rd row room without going to something as large as a Suburban. The Toyota Highlander and Acura MDX come to mind and are in the same general price range when comparably equipped.

One interesting note regarding the RX-L (both regular and hybrid): every one of them I've seen here in Vancouver at least, is built in Japan (VIN starts with JTJ*). We normally get all our RX from the Ontario plant, but I wonder if Japan is handling all the 2018 -Ls until the 2019 refresh comes out.

All "L" models are made in Japan.
