5th gen 2020 or further away?
I'd like to eventually get a 4th generation rx 450h to replace my 2nd gen... Price point is outta my reach though, but I'm hoping it will become more reasonable once the 5th gen makes it's debut... or is that wishful thinking for a 2016 or 2017?

No, I don't play soccer!
1st gen RX - 1999-2003
2nd gen RX - 2004-2009
3rd gen RX - 2010-2015
4th gen RX - 2016 - present
Each gen RX came out the prior year with the first RX debuting in April 1998. So five years is about average which would probably mean 2020 (for 2021 MY) at the earliest for the 5th gen. And PeeVee is right, there hasn't been any refresh on the 4RX yet. Lots of speculation for 2019 MY but nothing definitive yet.
As far as wishful thinking, since the 4RXh came out, Lexus dropped a few standard features and lowered the base price. In general, there are far fewer hybrids on the road (limited inventory). And gas prices are going up. Unfortunately the latter two are not helping your situation. But I will say the price differential between gas and hybrid is narrower than previous gens. It might be a matter of waiting a bit longer to see what happens.

Lead Lap
For various models, except for the LS and LX, Lexus has typically introduced a new generation only 3 years after a mid-cycle refresh. Since the the RX is still waiting for its mid-cycle refresh, which likely will come with the 2019 model year, I would not expect to see a Generation 5 RX until the 2022 model year or, at the earliest, the 2021 model year.
