2019 changes?

Lexus is very secretive. Anyone who would actually know would probably be let go from Lexus for letting on any information like you heard. (and nobody in dealerships would know, people on this forum will know more than dealership owners or managers) There's the New York International Car Show March 30, is possible they'd release it then? Sometimes Lexus says what's coming, sometimes not. They tend to hit mid cycle refresh with no prior announcements. Just 'shows up'.

They will definitely unveil it at an auto show in the near future and possibly sometime this spring like they did with the 2017 IS refresh (Beijing Auto Show) or 2018 NX refresh (Shanghai Auto Show).
The information I heard was from an individual who works at the Lexus plant in Cambridge and is ranked fairly high up in the company. PM me if you want more details.

I'm going to the N.Y. show this weekend but I don't expect to see a thing about the 19 RX.

Bejing Auto Show is April 25, that's a contender for when they would drop it next if not in NY.

That would be great but highly doubtful. They won’t add anything dramatic like LTA to a mid cycle refresh on their best selling crossover! My guess is that they’ll stick with just adding Apple/Google car play. Who knows though!

So here’s the question, if Lexus reveals the 2019 models with Apple/Android car play, will we be able to update our infotainment system to also have that feature? Last thing I want is buyers remorse since the Mrs. and I just ordered our 2018 model

Lexus Champion
Lexus parent company Toyota introduced CarPlay functionality at the Detroit Auto Show as part of the new Avalon sedan debut, and has confirmed to Apple website MacRumors that pre-2019 vehicles will not be upgraded “at this time”. It stands to reason this will be the case with Lexus vehicles as well.

Yeah but then you'll want to wait for the 2020s. Or 2021s.....or.....

I do like the 2nd generation Lexus Safety System + additions: Lexus Safety System + Gets Upgrade for 2018
This will likely be on the late 2018 RX models and on the 2019 RX models.

Well. They just announced at the NY car show that apple carplay and 2nd gen Lane tracing assist will be going on both the corolla and rav 4(2 of the lower end Toyotas). Refreshed or not I cant imagine how they wont be added to the 2019 RX. It'll be hard to sell a car lacking key new tech for double the price.

Beijing auto show starts in 9 days, and no mention of the RX. New ES they have confirmed to be there, and likely will be a home run. CarPlay and other large enhancements a certainty. Hopefully not chasing the Germans with more 'road feel and sound'.
I'm starting to wonder if they will delay the 2019 RX as they did the 2018 until after the new year and announce it this fall at the LA Auto Show. Certainly no rumblings of the mid-cycle update, though with the large upgrades in their competition, especially in the tech department, including their own RAV4 they need to really step up to stay relevant.

The fourth generation of RX (2016) started in November 2015. And it seems to be the date in general for every new RX model since.

I hope you're right. I'd like to see 2019 RX sooner, but the 2018 RX didn't hit dealerships until after January 2018, it was announced in LA in September. They were waiting to roll it out with the L version. If the 2019 comes out for sale in September, would be an 7-8 month run of the 2018 models. Pretty short. All previous new vehicles and mid cycle refreshes that were for sale in Fall were announced in an international auto shows no later than May. If it's not in Bejing, it may be on a new timeframe. Unless other show coming up, or the buck the trend and just issue media release. They're putting a lot of products out with the UX and new ES which will take advertising spotlight. Just trying to read the tea leaves. Lexus does well at hiding their hand until they are good and ready.
