How much for that 15 seconds of labor time???

And the SD card version cost more than the version where they have to hook up a cable and download???

I don't see any logic in this.

I guess the logic is, SD card version is on newer cars, which the owners are more likely to spend money to update the map.

Also for the price of their update, this is what I paid at the time for my Garmin with unlimited free map updates. Which I still use sometimes, still works better than the one from Lexus.

Does anyone know what our Lexus navigation system based on? Is it Tom Tom or Garmin? Is it possible to get an update by downloading whichever Nav platform our system runs on?

No it is their own. No compatibility whatsoever.

Lexus has the nerve LYING in their FAQ addressing this concern. They claim they did extensive checking and verification on the map data, so it is better than other Navigation's map. That's why it was so expensive. But actually they just bought the map data from the provider, then convert it to its own format so they can charge a premium for it.

My vehicle is a 2016 RX 450h, but my infotainment was replaced. I checked my map dates & they are 2015 - WAY out of date! How do I find out what date map I really should have?

I just now called my dealer to ask about a map data and navigation software update for my 2016 RX 350. The map chip is $180 and the software update is $270, total $450 (!). I could buy several GPSs for that.

hmmm. I thought the software updates were done free of charge provides you are within the original comprehensive warranty period and there was a fee for the map update. I believe you can download the software updates from the Lexus website too.

I could be wrong - I have onl3had my 2016 for 3 days.😊

Under the radio, on the right side, there is a small door & the micro SD card. That micro SD controls the infotainment system & nav.

Hi there,

I was referring the downloading of the updates (depending on year/model) to a USB, as per the Lexus website. I have not done so I can't speak to its' ease or reliability but thought I would mention it.

Be reminded, the software update is only for 2016 models. I tried looking for 2017 and it keeps saying there are currently no available software updates. And yes, it is downloadable to a USB which you will plug in to do the updates. Note, this does not update the map software.

If you drill down into the map data, Tom Tom appears to be the data provider.
