Do you get a prorated amount refunded to you if the car is totaled?

I do not have one as I never keep my vehicles over about 15k. It is not a bad plan for someone who owns for high mileage.

Extended warranty might be highway robbery but not the maint plans if you plan on keeping your vehicle.

Hi,
I just call my dealer's finance department, and they quoted me 5 years at 50k miles $2630.
(She told me its about 35% off if I paid independently. )

And for 5 years 75k mile cost me $3680

Midas charges me $79 + tax for the oil change, tire rotation is $15.

I am worried about it's the spark plug at 30k miles.

Looks like Toyota is the best options here based on your replies.

Thanks

my bad should be 60k (which left me only the $3680 option)
at 30K I need to do this:
FACTORY RECOMMENDED
  • Check Installation Of Driver's Floor Mat
  • Reset Oil Maintenance Reminder, if Oil was Changed
  • Reset Scheduled Maintenance Reminder
  • Perform Road-Test on Vehicle
  • Rotate Tires
  • Inspect Axle Shaft Boots
  • Inspect Body/Chassis
  • Inspect Brake Rotor Thickness and Runout
  • Inspect Engine/Inverter Coolant
  • Inspect Rack-and-Pinion Assembly
  • Inspect Rear Differential Oil (4WD/AWD, If Applicable)
  • Inspect Transmission for Signs of Leakage
  • Inspect Wiper Blades
  • Inspect Ball Joints And Dust Covers
  • Inspect Brake Lines And Hoses
  • Inspect Steering Linkage And Boots
  • Inspect Exhaust Pipes And Mountings
  • Inspect Fuel Lines And Connections, Fuel Tank Band And Fuel Tank Vapor Vent System Hoses
  • Inspect Fuel Tank Cap Gasket
  • Replace Brake Fluid
  • Replace Smart Key Battery
  • Replace Engine Oil And Oil Filter
  • Replace Engine Air Filter
  • Replace Cabin Air Filter (If Equipped)
  • Visually Inspect Brake Pads, Calipers and Rotors
  • Torque Drive Shaft Bolt

and at 60k, I need to do this

I've always obtained prepaid maintenance and come out ahead. I did the math many times, and save few hundred dollars. And inflation helps as well.
I totally believe in Lexus dealer only touching my cars.

My RAV4 V6, which is basically the same engine as my RX350, calls for plugs at 100K. Why is Lexus recommending them at 60K?

It is not Lexus that is recommending replacing the spark plugs at 60,000 miles. That list is not the list of Lexus recommended maintenance. Instead, it is a list of items that the dealer has created to try to get people to spend money on things that are not needed, and it includes many items that are not part of the Lexus recommended maintenance schedule.

As I said in a previous post, if I was to have all of the items that Lexus actually recommends done at the local Toyota dealer, I would be spending about $550 through the first 6 years of ownership. If I had those same recommended items done at the Lexus dealer, I would end up spending between $1200 and $1500. But, if was to have those things done that are on the dealership's "fake" list or if I was to buy a pre-paid maintenance plan from the dealer, the cost would likely be somewhere between $3000 and $4000.

Unfortunately, the service departments at Lexus dealers operate on the principle that, if people are willing to pay a premium price to buy a Lexus, they will also be willing to pay through the nose for required maintenance and even be willing to pay even more for maintenance that isn't even needed or actually recommended by Lexus.

Well said - check this, inspect that. Stealership revenue generation. Smart key battery -buy one for $2 and change it yourself in minutes.

Currently, the car is 4200 miles, and with one free maintenance left at the 10k service.

Also, the extended warranty, can I purchase out of state and still use it in any Lexus service location?

thanks in advance.
On my 2013 GS I called an independent mechanic (whom I used on numerous occasions on previous cars) to compare prices on the 30k and 60k maintenance to the dealer price. When they calculated the price they assumed the same recommended maintenance items from Lexus. Their price was almost IDENTICAL to my Lexus dealer (within a few dollars), I was very surprised. Of course you can choose to skip items to make the overall price lower, but item for item the Indy price was the same as Lexus. I live in South Texas so maybe the dealer feels they need to keep their prices reasonable to be competitive. I’ve elected to go with Lexus for my service because of the competitive prices in my area, plus I get a free loaner.

us$65 is about ca$85 the going rate for a synthetic oil change with filter by an indy here in the Toronto area.

This looks like a dealer's recommended service and not the factory's. 90% of these things can be performed by a lay person. Go by what the owner's manual says, nothing more nothing less!

I too have found that my dealer's prices are equal and sometimes cheaper than a good indy. Also even at the dealer's the Lexus maintenance is 25% of what my MB was.
