Smile Finally! A quiet F-sport

I bought the RX F-Sport 5 months ago because I just love the look of the grille.
Immediately after I got it I noticed the harsh engine noise during acceleration (not even hard acceleration, just normal driving), I was quite disappointed with it because I expect to have a much more quiet ride from a Lexus, I later found out that the F-Sport engine is equipped with a "sound generator" that cannot be disabled.
So after months of searching, I found an online (Cdn) store selling Lexus parts that has a "cap" for the non-Fsport engine.
I bought it a few weeks ago, replaced the "sound generator" with this "cap" and voila ... a quiet RX F-sport. The engine is much more quiet now and I can totally enjoy the ride in my RX.
The "cap" only cost me CDN$16 while the "sound generator" was selling for $113 (for those who wants to get extra engine noise)

If anyone interested, let me know and I'll post some pictures.

I know there are fans of the "sound generator" out there, I understand why you like to hear the excessive noise which is your preference, I just prefer the quiet ride so no need to ask me why.

Yup I did the very same thing! Had the sound generator removed and capped it! Definitely made it better

Default Nice to have pictures and part number

Please post picture and the part number. From the discussion a while back, it looked like all you had to do was disconnect that tube that carried the sound and cover the end of it with something like a piece of rubber and the reconnect the tube. So, it will be interesting to get the part number. As much as I appreciate the sound of the engine, I would like to try it with the quieter engine. Hopefully without the sound generator it will sound more like the LS?

We’ll done. I’ve considered capping the sound generator on my GS but am still undecided.

Why would anyone want fake noise coming into the cabin when so many on this forum complain about real exhaust noise - I don't get it.

The NX sound is real obvious when accelerating but has volume control and turn off.
I have it on half the time just to enjoy what the engineers intended.

I can NOT hear the RX sound, yes FSport.
I am sure it’s there, maybe I am trying to hear tone like NX.

RX super quiet.

Below is a pic from Lexus to show how the RX 350 Fsport sound generator is attached

Below is the part of the cap for the non-Fsport

Below is the location of the sound generator. There's not much space back there behind the engine, and the parts are quite snuggly fit so it takes a bit of effort in twisting and turning to get the sound generator out and push the cap back in, make sure it's pushed all the way in before tighten the clamp.
All you need to do is unscrew the clamp to loosen it (don't need to take it out, just loosen it enough to pull the sound generator out and push the cap in).

The original sound generator after uninstalled:

Non Fsport cap installed:

I purchased the cap from https://www.lexuspartsdirect.ca/
The part# is 178930P150 , it's called Air Intake Resonator w/o Fsport
https://www.lexuspartsdirect.ca/p/Le...78930P150.html

Enjoy the quiet ride!

there looks like a vacuum tube that went to the sound generator..

is there a corresponding connection on the new part/cap?

Get an LC with the V8 and I suspect you'll hear some noise there when you push it.

The sound generator (I think Lexus calls it Resonator) is just simply a pipe with an open end that has a diaphragm inside to amplify the intake sound. The "vacuum tube" that you're referring to is just a pipe feeding air into the intake manifold.

Replacing it with the cap is just to eliminate the "amplifier", so you will hear the true engine sound during acceleration, much more quiet than the amplified sound.

Below is the video clip explaining how it works, the video is based on the Lexus IS, same concept, similar sound generator, just different part for the RX model.
