I know this has probably been discussed before, but is the blind spot in the back rear sides of the 2017 RX's a deal-breaker for those of you considering the Lexus's, or has it been a big problem for those of you who already acquired one? I am vacillating between the 2018 Volvo XC60 T6, and the 2017 Lexus RX450h f sport, but that darn blind spot keeps holding me back. Does anyone know a good car shrink?

I am 6ft, seat sits high, and have no issue.
I rarely look back anymore as I used to because of cam and all the sensors.

No problem. I admit that I've become highly dependent on the blind spot monitoring though.

One must check the "Blind Spot" symbols in the mirrors before changing lanes. They work great if you use them.

I certainly would not buy an RX due the limitations, if any, of the BSM. I have it on mainly because I like the RCTA. I see the BSM flash when I'm checking my mirrors but I do not use it as my primary lane change vehicle. If you adjust your mirrors correctly, there is no blind spot. I'm sure I'm in the minority, nothing new there.

My side rear view mirrors and BSM pretty well eliminate any blind spot for me.

I have no issue or close calls due to the rear blind spot. I don't really use the BSM on the 4rx. The 3rx seemed to be a little more in my sight line and I noticed it more in that vehicle. It might be that I am sitting differently in the 4rx? I tend to know what is going on around me as I check my mirrors constantly.

I find the A pillar more of a nuisance than the rear area. Making left turns at an intersection with pedestrians around is more of a problem...to me. People can get hidden in that area if you don't look around the pillar. Again maybe it's my sitting position.

I would not rule out the 450H due to the rear blind spot. Like any new to you vehicle, you soon adjust your mirrors and other safety features to make driving an easy and safe experience.

What he said 10X! Adjust your mirrors so if you look from far left to far right, when you move eyes from the left mirror to rear view mirror there is a slight overlap in what you see. Then from rear view to right mirror, again, there should be a slight overlap. If you do that, you will not have a blind spot. Trust me. I have a Ridgeline with no BSM and that thing, without the mirrors adjusted properly would give you a neck ache in heavy traffic.

I am 5'10" and I do not have any blind spot problem. The BSM works fine, while I still double-check using my own eyes. I still wish BSM would beep instead of just flashing.

Honestly, if it beeped I would turn it off completely. While driving in traffic on the freeway it would be nonstop beeping.

It's bad, I check the blind spot very lazily now. Almost as if it's muscle memory.

It will only beep when your turn signal is on. This post proves that Lexus BSM's flashing light is less useful and people may not even know that feature.

I'm with you on that I even turn my head every now and then.

I have the BSM but mine doesn't beep when turning signals are on and a car is on the blind spot... am I missing something?

It doesn't beep...at least on US-spec cars.
