Default Auto Stop/Start

Doex the 2017 RX have this meaning when you come to a full stop with foot remaining on brake, the engine shuts down until your foot comes off the brake? I rented a car a month ago with this technology and hated it.

No it doesn't. I hate every start/stop system I have experienced, especially on hot days and the AC turns off.

Only the 450h does this. The engine can stop running even before you stop and the AC stays cold the whole time.

The engine can stop running even when you're driving 70mph under certain circumstances. =D

The lack of start-stop was one reason I did not get RX350 but got the RX450h. Most German cars built today have Auto Start-stop (user can disable) so really disappointed in Lexus. In congested urban areas, enabling it can cut down on unnecessary pollution and save on gas. THe AC may stop but the fan keeps going, and one still gets cool air if the stops are relatively short- like 2 minutes at a traffic light. One will not notice loss of AC in most cases. And then there are drive thrus at the banks, fast food places, etc. etc. where the Start-stop can really help.

In congested areas where you are slowly moving and stopping for miles start/stop system will drive you mad. It's also quite taxing on your battery. But you will save at least 10% in fuel cost.

I have the start/stop in the Q7 and cannot get used to it so I simply turn it off. I'm very happy Audi put the on/off button right on the dash so no menus to go through. But the few times I have used it I noticed that on hot days if the a/c is in manual mode the start/stop will not engage. However, if the a/c is in auto and the cabin temp has been reached the start/stop will turn the engine off.

I hate auto stop/start in vehicles. So glad it doesn't have it.

I would not like it either until I drove the 450h.
There is little to not like as the whole system takes care of itself.
The AC and everything else work perfectly even with the engine off.

What do you not like about the 450h system.

I went in an hybrid ES. Fully electric when lover than 20 Mph and then the engine starts seamlessly when moving at higher speed.
The transition is very smooth.

So does the RX450h does the same?

Sounds the same. It is amazing how it transitions form gas to electric and back again.

What mileage are you getting with the ES?

It was a loan from the dealer while my RX was serviced. but I found it amazing!

So maybe my next car will be hybrid!

The 450h will run under battery while there is more than 2 bars of battery charge, under 42-43 MPH, and slight acceleration. The dash and HUD will show a bar with a tick mark to indicate when the system power will start the engine under acceleration. If accelerate hard, then engine starts. You can drive about 2 miles under battery.

I wouldn't call the hybrid system stop/start...but hybrid systems are great at restarting the engine while on the move.

I was reminded how much I hate stop/start when I was given a 2017 Mercedes C300 while my other car was at the dealer. The turbo-4 jolts so hard when restarting and, like mentioned earlier, very annoying during any traffic.
