Default Rear ended at low speed but had only 2500 miles on the ODO :(

Rear end collision at less than 10 m/hr, young teen driver wasnt paying attention at the stop sign, continued to roll and nudged into the back of our brand new RX 450h. Hopefully Lexus can restore to prime. I havent tried opening the rear hatch yet, all else including park assist, rear camera all works fine, anyone know if the rear hatch lid would need to replaced or will it be straightened out?

Rear end collision at stop sign, License plate brushed out on uploaded photo.

Sorry about the damage. That really sucks. Hope you are okay.

I would insist on a OEM replacement on everything that was damaged. From the photo, there are too many creases on the lid and you certainly don't want a repair on that. Also the bumper and any related support structure would need to be replaced as well.

I'm assuming the person that hit you has insurance. I would also file a diminished value claim for good measure.

Good luck!

Yep the rear door sheet metal needs to be replaced and not repaired. The bumper I think is a plastic and would be removed and replaced with new.

Glad ad no one was hurt, insist on new OEM parts and make sure the paint and clear coat match perfectly.

Not too many body shops straighten anything out anymore. They will just replace it with a new one, use the existing lights if they work and probably take other parts if not damaged. The parts beneath the bumper will probably have some damage as well. Make sure everything works as it should and lines up properly when you get it back. Paint should be relatively easy to match.

Sorry you have to go through this on such a new car.

Just awful. He/she was likely futzing with a cell phone. Happened to me about a year ago. I was in a rental car and was rear ended in a big way by a dope that was doing that exact thing. His car was totaled and my rental was pretty beat as well.

Rear door can not be repaired. Its not steel. The whole door needs to be replaced. There is no aftermarket and its only OEM. Its 4 to 6 grand of damages. Guess why I know that!?!??!

People on their phones drive me absolutely insane. The should be a severe penalty for being on your cell phone while driving. Everytime somebody is weaving all over the road, I look over and they are on the phone.

Thumbs up All are safe. TW

Hello & thanks everyone for your responses, we were ok. The kid and his friend were headed out on a Saturday evening and then "suddenly a vehicle stopped at a stop sign appeared from no where in front of them" ...The kid was very apologetic and luckily his parents had insurance and they agreed to fix the damage. The insurance company agreed to the have the RX repaired at the Westside Lexus collision centre in Houston & all damaged parts will be replaced with OEM as many posters have said. Waiting for the parts from Canada.
