Hi Guys,

We just noticed something might not be normal, please let us know what is the correct function?

When my wife put her handbag on the passenger seat, the "Passenger Air Bag" OFF
When she removed the handbag, and I sit in the passenger seat, seat belted and "Passenger Air Bag" ON (and stay on)

She claims was not like that when we purchase the car, I did not pay attention.

Can anyone verify that is the supposed to be ON all the time when a passenger sit and selted?

Yes.

It will either say it is on if someone is sitting in the seat and it will say off when empty. It will always say one or the other.

That is the way it works.

I think it's a safety thing. If it doesn't detect anyone it won't deploy the passenger airbag. Not sure why, maybe it deploys the driver faster or doesn't risk injuring the driver?

Likely saves about $2000 by not setting off the passenger air bag if no one is in the passenger seat.

By the way, starting with the 2016 RX's, when you activate S-Flow and you are
alone it turns off the passenger side HVAC (the temp number goes out also).
When a passenger get aboard it triggers the SIR we've been writing about and
fires up the passenger side A/C too!
