Excess wear/tear insurance and the pre-paid maintenance
Hi,
I recently bought the excess wear and tear protection for $860 with my RX350 2017. I mainly bought it because it covers damages up to $7500 on the exterior/interior and tire damage of any sort when turning in the lease. However, I did not buy the pre-paid maintenance for $1500 as I thought it wouldn't be as useful.
Are they worth getting? Any thoughts?

I am sorry but do not like either of these plans. They are money makers for the Lexus dealers. Unless you are in the habit of trashing your leased vehicles . . . .

The wear and tear option can be good for lease returns. Some dealers can be pretty picky and cost add up quickly. I would think you can return the vehicle in pretty sad shape. Bald tires, dents and dings, stone chips and possible even a damaged windshield. Just make sure you know what it covers.
As for pre-paid mtce, depends on how long your lease is. There should be no costs for you for 4 years on mechanical things. Probably only need oil changes.
I have had this lease protection before for my kids mini van. Didn't take care of it at all. Dents, bald tires, tie rods gone, brakes finished and the interior was a disaster. It was also a part time construction vehicle. When I dropped it off the dealer said there was approximately $4,800 damages plus tax they were going to charge me...I reminded them that I had the protection and they said...Oh that's great...signed off the return and drove me home!

I keep my vehicle in excellent condition, so didn't go for the wear/tear insurance. I did pre-pay for all maintenance to make my life easier. My local dealer does basic fluid and filter changes on the go, meaning they will come to my home or office to do them. This service adds up over time and I preferred to have it rolled into my monthly payment. I paid $1900 for 5 years, 50,000 miles of maintenance. I'm assuming I will basically break even when all is said and done vs. what I would have paid Lexus directly for all of those services. The largest one being the 30,000 mile service which can easily run $800 at the dealer.

I wouldn't purchase the prepaid maintenance package. There's too many things that are "included" that are simply don't need to be performed at the dealer (I.e., 5K interval services, cabin and engine filter change, inspections, tire rotations, fluid top offs). I order OEM parts from multiple websites for a significant discount and easily change them out. Tire rotations are free at local tire shop. But I guess there are people out there that don't have time, aren't as handy, or only want the dealer to perform every service for them for peace of mind, so the maintenance package would be for them.
I think the wear and tear package isn't that bad for the price. You may care for your car, but others around you or the environment doesn't care and will cause some scratches, rock chips, cracked windshield, etc. My salesperson always purchases this package for her cars; last leased car was keyed on the whole left side a week before return, and walked away without paying anything due to package.
