Mobile 1 is usually first or close to 1st when you look at ratings for consumer vehicles. It meets the spec for Lexus and is all I have used in my Gen 3. I buy it by the case at Costco (on sale) or in a 5 Quart jug at Walmart for the best pricing. Reviews vary year to year here's a recent one:

My local Lexus service manager told me if you come in to buy oil they will sell you Toyota synthetic oil. If you get a changed there they use a brand I have not heard of because they use oil from drums.

Agree 100%. Just bought Mobil 1 at Costco 0-20w six quart bottles. Their regular price is $39.99 but they had a $10 manufacturers rebate which makes it cheaper than Walmart's price of $25 for the five quart jug. I buy my oil filter from Lexus Parts World for $5.50. At Lexus Parts World use cl5 in the promo code for 10% discount. I take my 5 quart jug of Mobil 1 purchased at Walmart for $25 and one extra quart to my local Toyota dealer and they charge me $15 labor.

Dealer Toyota 0w20 plus filter with new drain plug gasket, good as any oil with no warranty issues. Change it every 8K. To each their own. I keep cars 3 years tops so it doesn't really matter to me. Mobil does get good reviews and goes on sale often.

Very interesting thread. I will be taking my rx350 in for an oil change. The vehicle has 8300 miles and it will be a year old at the end of the month. Thanks for this information. I'll be calling the dealer to find out what type of oil they use. Why would they use a sub- par oil since they could be warranty issues? Also, how is the " best " oil determined in the research? Finally, the chart with the 10 top synthetic oils was quite helpful. How much of a difference in quality is there between 4.9 and 4.7? Any how-- I appreciate the info.

If one has the Oil Changed at the Toyota Dealer, does that include the 10K Lexus Inspection/Service??? If the 10K service is not accomplished, how does this affect the Lexus warranty. I decided that when I bought the Lexus, I would have the "Dealer" do the Oil Changes and Inspections even if they are more expensive. I hope the dealer will accomplish any outstanding TSBs @ time of service, such as the "Smooth Shifting" TSB. I enjoy the free loaner cars and the free wash jobs that the dealer does also.

I think in the US the dealer gives you the 10K oil change. NOT in Canada !!! cheap up here

Every 10,000 miles, I get an oil change and tire rotation at the Lexus/Toyota dealership. This should be less than $100. Every 30,000 miles the brake fluid needs to be changed and again about $100. Every 20,000 miles change the air and cabin filters. This combined takes five minutes and the air filter can be bought on line at Lexus Parts World for $18. The cabin air filter can be bought at Walmart for $18, It is the Fram Fresh Breeze #10285 with carbon and baking soda to filter the air. Wiper blade inserts again can be bought at Lexus Parts World for $20 for both refills and takes five minutes to replace. You are done until 100,000 miles. At Lexus Parts World use cl5 in the promo code for 10% discount. If you go in and ask for the 10,000, 20,000 30,000 maintenance you will be paying big bucks for a lot more items you do not need checked and inspected. Once a year replace the key fob battery cr2032. I take my oil filter bought at Lexus Parts World and 5 quart jug of Mobil 1 purchased at Walmart for $24 to my local Toyota dealer and they charge me $15 labor. This has worked between our two cars for over one million miles without one issue. Keep receipts for everything.

I use Mobil 1 0W-20 Advanced Fuel Economy. $26 for a 5QT jug at Walmart and they have $10 rebates all the time. Dirt cheap for the most popular oil.
My friends with Audis and BMWs use royal purple. They need more expensive stuff because their engines eat oil and they want their cars to last. Not something we need to worry about with our cars.

Newer Toyotas and Lexus engines have been using 0W-20 for a while. This weight of oil only comes in synthetic and Toyota recommends only synthetic for the 10k mile oil change intervals. If you go to a Toyota dealership, they will put 0W-20 into your engine that should meet Toyota standards (Lexus included). Also, the oil filter for our cars are identical to the ones used at Toyota for a majority of their cars.
