Installed xpel. Cut it into a circle. It took FOREVER for it to stick to the camera but it eventually did. Used a towel to keep rubbing it down. It dried more so it sticks better than what you see in the photo.

Also, it does not alter the vision of the pano view in any way.

I tried to apply an iphone 4 screen protector to the lens but it would not adhere. The curvature of the lens means you'll prob need a softer protection layer.

I think anzkorboi's idea should work better since xpel or a similar urethane product is more likely to go over a curved surface than the iPhone screen protector.

Better than nothing, but still not much protection compared to glass. Also since some edges are lifted it's possible that xpel will be blown away in the wind or in the car wash, if you dare to use tunnel washes.

I'd try clear epoxy or nail cleaner. Not on lens surface tho.

I would think the camera lenses have sapphire glass to make it much more resistant to scratches and chips... Does anybody know what type fo lens glass is sued?

washed my car today. strong hose, wash mitt and the xpel didn't come off at all.

I was scared to dry the area but I lightly dried the camera and nothing peeled off. It looks way more snug now that it had time to dry. I didn't do a perfect circle so there is one small piece that is sticking out but no issues

Ouch. I lost a front parking sensor to a rock chip at 3000 miles. $625 later it was repaired. An independent mechanic wanted $590. Ouch.

May be a dumb question.. shouldn't the insurance cover these (like a windshield protection)?

I have a feeling it's just cheap plastic... We aren't talking 4k camera here. The technology itself is relatively simple and dated. Lexus (and the auto industry as a whole) just like to charge a fortune for outdated technology.

Saphire may protect from scratches but would be more brittle and prone to shattering.

My insurance deductibles are $2500. Even if I had the minimum deductible at $500, I'd be spending at least that, and taking it on the chin for making a claim.

I was talking to the parts guy today and he told me a new camera with the cable is $ 571 plus tax.

I was told that another customer took his camera out and took it to a camera store where they took the old lens off and replaced it with a new one for $125.
