Unusual noise coming from gearbox when changing gears
Hey guys, I need your help. I am a woman and not too familiar with cars.
I just picked up a new 2016 RX 350 (w/o F Sport) and noticed a couple of odd sounds.
I will best describe these sounds as I have no idea why its making these noises or what it may be.
First, when I have the front windows down and I switch gears from park to drive or to reverse, I can hear an electrical motor sound from under the car. The sound is pretty noticeable and I have never experienced anything like this before in my other automatic cars. To be specific, it sounds like an electrical motor switches the gears in the transmission, but it can only be heard when the windows or doors are open. Is this normal?
Second, while driving, I heard water rushing somewhere in the car, not sure where exactly its coming from.
Are these sounds normal?
Thank you in very much for any input.
Clara.

The first issue is your parking brake. It is electric motors on each rear wheel that engage or disengage the rear brakes. It's normal.
The second issue, I don't know. Maybe someone else will chime in .

+1 on the Ebrake servo motors being the whirring sound.
The second one is likely the AC refrigerant circulating through the condensers which has been discussed a ton in here.

Yes, that whirrrring sound is inded the emergency brake engaging and disengaging when switched to AUTO. It's next to the seat warmers on the left hand side.
The second is prob the AC coolant. Lots of people have complained about this to their dealers with no remedy so far.
Good luck!
