I'm with you ! I've changed my 1st oil at 1,600 Km (1,000 miles) for the same reason and also because I've always done it and never had any engine problems, I too change oil & filter (TRD filter as I do not like the standard one) every 8,000 Km ( 5,000 miles) or 12 months.
I also change ATF transfer Case & Differentials every 50,000 Km ( 31,000 miles) To some this may look to be excessive, but to me it's peace of mind and the knowledge that my mechanical parts are in tip-top shape.

The 5K service is such a waste of time unless you get them to change the oil and filter. I have been successful once but it has always been a fight to get them to do it. The last time it took me about 10 months to put 5K miles on the car so they agreed under the almost 12 month rule. You will get the argument that they do more if you wait....maybe a cabin filter....at the 10K mark. I agree with the fresh oil concept especially if you plan to keep the car for a long time.

As I have stated I do change oil & filter every 8,000 Km (5,000 miles) I don't understand the reluctance of your dealer to change the oil & filter, do you pay for it or is it included in the service? If it is included I can see the reasoning if not the motive escapes me. I pay for my service I NEVER subscribe to "Service Included" packages as they use the cheapest products available.

Default First service, any suggestions?

I've seen here or there where people recommended tweaks of sorts but cannot recall the threads.....so any suggestions are appreciated! I have my first service this afternoon.

For me, it was basically a waste of time - they do nothing and I didn't need any mods. Car wash.

Well I know they balance/rotate tires which is good....and it could use a good car wash

I just have read several places on here about tech tweaks but I wish I had wrote them down, there was a couple I wanted to ask them to do.

https://www.lexus.com/documents/broc...navigation.pdf

Scroll down to page 4 for dealer changes.......the site is for the 450h and I assume it holds for the 350 also.

After the service, make sure all the switches are on the right position. I always leave my headlights in Auto, but they turned it off during the service. I was driving in the dawn without any lights on, including the DRL, for awhile before I realized it.

1. Get your panoramic monitor car color changed
2. Set up your Lexus Personalized Settings
3. Avoid the scratch wash if you have a dark colored car
4. Buy accessories if you want them
5. Have them fix or document any complaints you have
6. Meet with a technologist for an introduction if desired

Plenty of things you can do!

For me it will be just two things, 17 4RX350,
-Increase the turn signal blinks from 3 to 5
- Increase the sensitivity of the touchless tailgate sensor from low (standard) to medium

And yes, I will avoid the scratch wash.

Longo Lexus is getting cheap now. They want $17 for that scratch wash which I refused.

Wait, I just noticed OP's user name, which I saw many times on another message board. Such a small world! So you will have your RX serviced by the same dealer as I did. (We only have 1 Lexus dealer here.) And definitely check your light switch after the service.

I enjoyed waiting on my 450h at it's 5K.

Besides they have a chef that cooked me a 3 egg omelet with ham and cheese plus some great grits!

Only took 45 minutes and was well worth the visit.

Ahh! We only have a sometimes broken coffee machine and some finger-sized bakery samples.

You serious? I'm not sure I could have finagled a bottle of water from them much less a chef prepared omelet

I didn't even see any stale bakery samples, but they ran me over to Providence for some Edgar's. The GM was out there and did give me a side eye when he saw the Nalley logo on the back...we dealt with him a little bit when we were shopping.
