Seat cooling fan
2017 RX 350 Noise from fan is so loud on high I have to turn it down or off. dealer says normal, but I have never had this problem on 2015 RX or 2013 es

Yeah, mine is loud as well. And i don't think it's that cool even set to high. Maybe i have to be butt naked to feel the cool air.

I would rather have them loud and vented faster especially after the car has been sitting in the sun for a while.

Today got in my new 2016 RX 350 and sounded like an airplane. I thought it was the A/C itself, but narrowed it down to the ventilated seats. Very loud when it was on the highest setting ( which was the auto setting).
Is this normal? I did a brief Google search and seems past year models were loud as well. It seems more loud than it should be. Maybe I will take off the auto setting.

I heard also if vent holes plugged up, it gets louder.

So, with the ventilated seats, it is a trade off. If you want more air flow, the system is going to be louder. If you want it to be quiet, there will be less air flow.

You can modulate the effect if it bothers you by setting the relative temperature of the seat heating or cooling: I have mine set to -2 cool so I get more fan. Similarly I bump it to 0 for winter heating.
■ Seat heaters*/seat ventilators* (→P. 522, 523)
*: If equipped
Customized setting
Driver’s seat temperature preference in automatic mode
Standard -2 (cooler) to 2 (warmer)
Front passenger’s seat temperature preference in automatic mode
Standard -2 (cooler) to 2 (warmer)

Noisy fans....what's next, "The steering wheel's noisy when slipping through my hands" Yes the fan, or more precisely the air, makes noise when flat out, knock it back one setting and it's fine and you would mostly only have it flat out for a couple of minutes until the seats cool. Moving air through small holes at great speed will induce noise.
There seems to be a lot of complaints on here about noisy items, may I suggest that as the car is so quiet and refined all these noises seem more pronounced, other lesser vehicles make noise too you just may not notice them as much.

Just a point of interest — another thread in this forum pretty conclusively proves that the two fans in each seat suck air rather than blow it. So with your back and butt against the seat, there is little air flow through the holes in the seat. The sound is really just fan noise.

It sure seems like mine blows air outward (let the car sit with no one in the seat on a hot day for a couple minutes, get back in --I can feel cool upward flow) however, there is a video of all the Lexus seat components posted in 2013 which clearly shows the intake and exhaust sides of the two fans, blowing through the seats. Unless Lexus changed their logic, here's another answer:

This is the thread I am referring to Which way is air flow in the ventilated front seats, but I stand corrected, It was not a conclusive test. Just enough to convince me that the fans are sucking. However, the video of the 2013 Lexus seat clearly shows it set up to blow. So many tests do do, so little time. This Video of a Tesla test is how I think they might work.
