Default "ROADS MAY BE ICY" Warning

Every time the temperature is below 40ish, I get a warning that "Roads May Be Icy". It dings first then flashes on the dash. VERY annoying...as if I have a flat tire or some serious road hazard. And it doesn't do this at first but only after rolling for a few minutes which makes it all the more startling. Is there any way to turn this whacky nuisance off?

Yeah, roads may be icy and gas may get expensive and my tires might wear out. Jeez...enough with the nanny state.

I took delivery the other day, it happened to be snowy and I was overwhelmed when i first got the warning of icy road and thought "how nice!"...then the next few days I kept receiving this warning regardless the road condition, that's when I started to feel annoyed just like you.

I'm hoping it doesn't require "hacking", but is part of a hard to find preference menu somewhere

My VW would do that at 39°. It was very annoying and pointless. My wife would always ask what was wrong with the car if she was along.

Hated that feature on my now gone X3. Didnt make the car safer, annoyed me, and of course just made it a talking point by some about how much BMW engineers engineered safety into the car ?

Likely a new government mandate for the auto makers.

I was at the dealer this morning (to have my body side moldings installed) and asked the tech guy about turning off the "Roads May Be Icy" warning. He had no clue. But did say he would post on some internal bulletin board for the dealer tech guys and call me with what he finds out. I'll post that here. My guess is that this is something that cannot be turned off, based on the fact that he went through some hard to find menus and couldn't do it.

its not that awful in my opinion. The 3RX seatbelt dinging was way more annoying

Update: The tech guy at my dealer called today and he said he checked it out. This is considered part of the safety features and cannot be turned off. So we'll have to get used to it.

As we settle into winter, this alert is driving me nuts. Would be great if Carista could come up with a way to disable this.

With my ES, the icy roads warning and other pop-up warnings can be disabled. The option to do so is in the customization settings for the multi-information display, and you can navigate to those settings with the buttons on the steering wheel.

I can't say for sure that it is the same with the RX, but, since the multi-information display on the Generation 4 RX is essentially the same as that on the 2016 and 2017 ES, I'd be surprised if the RX doesn't have the same customization option.
