Sadly yes it's common while parallel parking in and around NYC. People tend to park by feel, meaning when they feel they tapped the car behind them or in front they know they can't go any further.

Just this past weekend me and my wife witnessed a woman in a new Altima with a backup camera bump the car behind her 3 times while trying to park. And the parking space was at least 1 1/2 times the size of her car.

If you need to parallel park and don't have some type of bumper protection, especially on the rear you're taking your chances.

However, I have witness the same in other states too where parallel parking is required. I just think it's more common in and around the NYC area because for the most part there really is no other choice then to parallel park.

There are more discrete designs available.

I think this one would not be noticeable at all.

Of course we do.
And do you know what is even more noticeable?
A damaged grill.

Default Front Bumper Protector

Does anyone have pictures of one installed on a new 2016 F Sport? I live in Chicago... careless drivers aren't just confined to NYC

Which type is the best? Suggestions?
Also, would anyone recommend a good rear bumper molding instead of a bumper badger? I just don't like the look of those or having to install/removed each time.

THanks!

Default Protect FSport grill?

has anyone come up with a stealthy or subtle way to protect our Fsport grills from getting cracked by small bumps? I've seen the rubber license plate holders but they look pretty bad on our grilles.... Any creative ideas out there ?

Interesting.

I'm all for protecting stuff if it doesn't make the car look weird.

Nothing we can do about the mesh grill. I did xpel around the front and that's the most I could do. I think it should be fine. If you're gonna get into a crash, I don't think a fake bumper will save you

Yeah I did ventureshield as well but I'm concerned about the guys who like to back up just enough to crash the plastic or make some minor dents just so they know they've gone back enough to push the limit

I just did a quick photoshop on how it would look on a NX F Sport grill... It would look similar on the RX. You gotta do what you gotta do, to protect your baby in NYC.

Bumper shox XL looked horrible on my '14 IS. Pretty much looks like a pair of horns on the front of your car. I can't imagine it looking better on the RX.
I went with a rubber plate protector on my IS...can't recall the name, but what I can tell you is that no matter which one of these plate style guards you get, they will surely break your grill even faster than without.
My IS plate was also mounted to the grill not bumper, so sure enough someone bumped me while parked and it cracked my grill behind the plate mount. Sure no paint damage, but still.

Been thinking about something like this for my new 2016 RX 350. However, no trailer hitch on the back of it. I can easily get a factory OEM trailer hitch, but are they a huge deal to install? Lexus dealers charge ridiculous to buy/install.

Default F Sport lip protector

Has anyone tried All-Fit or other type to protect the lower front lip on our fsports from getting scarred?

Default BumpShox XL on 2016 RX

Of course there's a BumpShox on both my 2014 ES and my 2016 RX. I should upgrade my BumpShox to the newer version that is all black but this serves the purpose and is invaluable in NY.
