I had this issue in my new car. The sales person sent over the technology specialist to look over it. He simply disconnected battery for around 5 minutes and hooked it back in.
The touchfree feature started working flawlessly after that.

Any help ?

If it never works bring it into the dealer.
If it works sporadically you can try a different technique or you can ask the dealer to raise the sensitivity from low, the factory setting, to high.

Anyone Have a Lexus-Logo Hatch Release that Works?

I'm talking about the proximity switch in the rear logo on my 2016 RX350. It works only very rarely, and the time it requires to work is not worth the trouble.

Fortunately it works every time for me. There is a tsb out there for issues with the handsfeee. Have you checked it out?

LordBowral 07-06-17 06:51 PM

works perfectly

yes works perfectly .... are you aware it takes a few seconds to register ?

I asked the dealer to change the sensitivity on mine and it works just about every time.

Thanks. Could not find a service bulletin on the subject. Read in a post here that it doesn't work with doors unlocked. For me, with the doors unlocked sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't—same as with the doors locked. Careful positioning of the hand helps. Still, for me, it's not a convenience, and not worth more of my time. Perhaps Lexus ought to sneak a look at Ford's foot-kick proximity opener!

I have has this feature on THREE RX units and if has worked perfectly on all without adjustment.

By far the most useless and gimmick feature ever. It's easier and faster to simply push the normal tail gate opening button versus waiting and hoping it would open. Unlike other manufacturers where the third door opens by extending your leg out underneath the rear bumper (a true hands free feature), you still have the hold your hand over the emblem. What if you hands are occupied holding things?

I know it is a stupid design. But the elbow works too. That was how I used the touch less feature.

LordBowral 07-17-17 02:51 PM

Use your elbow or arm ... so many people have fallen over in car parks holding shopping trying to wave their foot under the car and overbalance ...it's also hilarious watching them trying to activate them . I agree though pressing the button is faster

I have trouble with this feature. THe design is stupid and so is the execution. I believe the kick option like in Ford/BMW is best when your hands are full- and it works to both open and close the lid. The lexus system wont allow you to close the lid when your hands are full.

I honestly think this feature is poorly executed. They should have just made the L emblem a push button and hold for 2 seconds to open the hatch. I don't think anyone enjoys playing around with the touch sensor when you are a) in a hurry b) carrying heavy stuff c) it's raining. It works great when I want to show it off to people but when I need to use it, it decides to taunt me. :)

aznkorboi 07-19-17 08:02 AM

I literally use it when I have my hands full. I'm 6'3 so my elbow is perfect.

It works 100 percent of the time.

The new nx will have the kick to open feature. I'm assuming the RX will soon follow
