Default Door Lock Issue

Looking for advice and hoping to avoid dealer repair....from time to time my back doors won't lock or unlock using the remote. The dealer is suggesting a complete actuator replacement, but I've read that a replacement motor can also be purchased for far cheaper. Part # or suggestions on where to find would be appreciated! Thanks

Assume the front doors work ok? Before replacing any parts, I would determine which part is defective.

Yes, front doors work. I'm trying to determine which parts don't work without going through dealer just replacing everything

Try using a different method of locking and unlocking the doors. If the back door locks work consistently with a different method then maybe the the problem is not the actuators. Besides, how could the left rear door and the right rear door actuators both poop out at the same time?

JCG has a good point. Is the problem only with the remote? How about the lock switch on the drivers door? Is it possible the child locks on the back doors get turned on/off at times?

If the doors lock via the driver door switch it is not the actuator. Doo they lock when you touch the door handles or lock the rear doo hatch?

Change the flat battery in the remote . Make sure you buy fresh batteries Costco sells them . Amazon & eBay are old junk.

It's not a remote battery problem if the remote works to open the front doors.

Sounds like actuators are going bad! Check on RockAuto!

If your door lock isn't opening, start by ensuring you're using the correct key, as similar keys can easily be mistaken. If the key is correct, inspect it for damage or wear. If the key appears fine, try lubricating the lock. A dry lock can often be the cause of a key not turning smoothly. Use a graphite-based lubricant or a silicone-based lubricant; avoid oil-based products as they can attract dirt. If the key turns but the lock doesn't open, the issue might be with the lock mechanism. In this case, you might need to jiggle the key gently while trying to turn it. If the key doesn't turn at all, check if the lock is frozen (common in cold weather) and use a de-icer or a hairdryer to thaw it. If these steps don't work, the lock might be broken or the key may be worn out, and it may be time to contact a locksmith for professional help. Remember, forcing the key can cause it to break inside the lock, complicating the situation.
