Default 2016 Lexus RX revealed (pics page 35)

Will update with photos when they come available.

Updated with Spy shoots, thanks to zema!!!

Should be larger than its predecessor

Lexus has already announced plans to introduce an all-new F model at the North American International Auto Show but a new report is indicating it will be joined by the redesigned RX.

Little is known about the model but executives have previously suggested the RX will grow in size to help distance itself from the NX. There has also been rumors about the addition of a third of seats but nothing is official as of yet.

Specifications are shrouded in secrecy but engines options are expected to carryover. However, the six-speed automatic gearbox will likely be replaced by an eight-speed transmission.

Lexus' #1 selling model better be a homerun. Benchmark status almost.

Any half-assed attempt won't bode well in this market.

It's outselling the ES now?

Either way, I think the NX is going to significantly impact future RX sales........but we'll see. If the new RX (as expected) grows a little and add a third seat (something that was previously unavailable), that will probably minimize the NX's potential impact on its sales. And the NX, from my limited review-experience, doesn't offer as much comfort as the typical RX....a big issue with many Lexus buyers.

Really hope this is a home run. More importantly, Lexus needs a three row crossover that is car based. Hopefully the third row rumor is true. It's hard to even name any competitors that do not have a three row crossover now. Many people don't even consider getting a truck based crossover when there are so many other options out there. Not to mention the GX and LX are just very large and the price reflects that. Besides for some refreshing are showing their age. I hope interior quality takes a huge step up.

It's going to be similar looking to the NX but will retain more luxury and comfort as to not alienate Legacy buyers.

Legacy?

The new RX, IMO, will need a little more more comfort and refinement than the NX. In my review (and I know you checked it out, too), I found the NX a little short of both rear-passenger room and sound-insulation from road noise, though the ride-comfort over bumps was not bad for its size.

I don't have the hard numbers with me (so I'll take your word on that)...but, in my area, the ES and the RX have both been extremely popular. The IS250AWD, surprisingly, also is quite popular in the D.C. area....more so than RWD models.

It has been discussed in the past that the RX may have a long-wheelbase version, like the LS. If so, it may have the potential for a third row.

Doesn't China offer a long-wheelbase RX or sorts?

But I haven't heard of any recent news regarding it. But it would be interesting to offer both a short- and long-wheelbase RX...

Lexus has put out IMPRESSIVE product (IS, RC/RCF, NX) ever since the 4GS redesign - so I'm sure the RX will be great as its Lexus' bread and butter product.

The only negative is "carryover engines."
Where are the new ones already?

That means the 4GS will still keep the old NA V6 at the refresh.

So, we'll see the LF-RX or the real deal?

Lexus coined the term 'legacy buyers' as those who have been with the brand for many years and routinely buy Lexus.

An example is giving buyers what they are used to like the mouse instead of the latest RTI

Thanks. You almost had me thinking you were talking about Subies.

I seemed to remember reading somewhere when the current gen RX came out in 2009/2010, that Lexus decided to stay with a smaller, 2-row RX because its Legacy owners felt that there was no need for an RX model with 3 rows of seats, like the Acura MDX.
